happy Birthday Spider Man! For the past 60 years, Spinner has been a permanent fixture in the ranks of comic heroes, and the Netzschwinger was penned by for the first time Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in August 1962 at Amazing Fantasy #15 on. Since then there have been numerous booklets, film adaptations, series and video game adaptations. The latter have undeniably reached their peak so far Spider Man achieved in 2018. No wonder that the Playstation-exclusive game was able to achieve a whopping 9.0 out of 10 points in our test.

If you haven’t yet cleared New York of criminals due to the acute shortage of Sony consoles, then there’s good news for you: Spider-Man Remastered appears for the PC. So far, the new edition was only available for the PS5 and only for a selected group of people there. You either had to purchase the Ultimate Edition of the standalone addon Spider-Man – Miles Morales purchased or upgraded the PS4 version for a fee.

Sony has made a name for itself in the past with successful PC ports. be it with God of War, Horizon-Zero Dawn or Days Gone, the ex-exclusive titles that have been implemented so far have all been convincing. Actually, it should be clear that Spider-Man Remastered is no exception, right? In order to really clear up all doubts, I took a closer look at the home computer version and made a judgment for you. Unless otherwise stated, the test video shows scenes from the PC version with maximum settings in 1080p60.

Lots of settings, high demands

Of course, Sony didn’t stop at a simple porting; there are numerous setting options for PC gamers to have the best possible experience in New York. On the technical side, you can use Nvidia’s DLSS scaling technology if necessary, or alternatively AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution – provided you have the appropriate graphics card. DLAA is also part of the game, an AI-supported anti-aliasing method. If you have installed a powerful RTX graphics card, you can look forward to an even sharper picture. And of course you can customize and beautify the display with many other parameters.

Thanks to Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), dark scenes look even more realistic, you can also regulate ray tracing in several stages, change the shadow and hair quality and much more. If you put your mind to it, you can really make your computer sweat. The system requirements are correspondingly high if you want to turn up all the controls to the maximum.

Especially compared to the PS5 version, it is noticeable how much more the graphics quality has increased. If ray tracing is set to the highest settings, then you see almost all surrounding objects, passers-by and cars in reflective surfaces, which can be overwhelming at times. If all the mirroring is getting on your nerves for some reason, you can also deactivate it and use the freed-up hardware resources for other purposes. And that’s not an unrealistic scenario either, because Spider-Man demands a lot from your computer. See our news with the detailed system requirements. Our editorial computer with an i7-7770K, 16 GB RAM and an RTX 3080 didn’t manage native 4K with maximum settings in 60 frames per second, so the test video is only available in 1080p.

Right: You can also see numerous environmental objects in the pane on the PS5. Overall, however, the level of detail is somewhat lower, as is the sharpness of the image.

Full scope and controller support

Needless to say, what is included in the PC version of Spider-Man Remastered. Of course you get the complete main game without deletions, on the contrary: With The city that never sleeps come with three extensions: The robbery, turf wars and Silver Lining. In the three additional chapters, you will fight more enemies, meet additional allies, and simply have more fun.

Of course, if you have a Dualsense controller, you can use it without any problems. As on the PS5, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are supported. This doesn’t make a huge difference compared to the Xbox gamepad, for example, but it does provide a little bit more immersion. Other controllers are recognized without any problems and, if you wish, you can also clean New York of the gangsters with a mouse and keyboard. It’s not clear to me why people now want to play third-person action-adventures with these input devices. But it’s nice that Sony has implemented the option well.

Opinion: Dennis Hilla

For me, Spider-Man is the best superhero game in years, if not all time. Just how much fun it is to swing through New York is unbelievable. In addition, the free-flow combat system creates the perfect balancing act between speed and accessibility. And compared to the Batman Arkham series, which is also fantastic, I just like Spidey’s relaxed style better. This regularly brings back memories of the old comics that I devoured together with my father.

So it’s no wonder that I can warmly recommend the PC port if the game has passed you by so far. Many customization options, crisp graphics and all DLCs are also included. There’s really no reason for me not to strike. Except maybe if your computer is too weak, because Spider-Man Remastered is really hardware hungry. But you also get by far the most beautiful version of the game and an all-round successful open-world adventure. The foresight, the details, the ray tracing, all of these are nice bonuses on top.
