The biggest WoW streamer has been farming these mounts for 2 years, Blizzard is now writing a message

WoW Necroray Egg trans

The WoW streamer Asmongold is a passionate collector of mounts. But three mounts rob him of his last nerve – and all motivation.

Asmongold is the largest streamer related to World of Warcraft and likes to use this reach to draw a little attention to certain World of Warcraft topics. One of his great passions is collecting mounts – he has one of the largest collections of mounts anywhere. It annoys him even more when there are mounts he just can’t get.

After almost two years of Shadowlands, he has now sent a message to Blizzard and simply asked: Did you actually think anything of it?

What mounts are you talking about? We’re talking about the three Necroray mounts introduced with Shadowlands. These mounts are considered extra rare and that’s because you only have a chance to get them every few days. The mounts come from the “Necroray Egg”, which is only available from the vocation quests in Maldraxxus – albeit with an extremely low drop chance.

Many players who have been farming these crates at every opportunity since the launch of Shadowlands haven’t seen a single one of these eggs – and the one where you need 3 of them to get all 3 mounts.

What is the design goal for the Necroray Eggs that drop from the vocation crates in Maldraxxus? I’ve now opened around 170 of these boxes and have received 0 eggs so far, thinking maybe I’m just having a little luck. I checked online and there are people who have opened more than 300 boxes without a single egg.

Assuming the odds of getting an egg are anywhere from 1/50th to 1/100th, the average player would have to farm these vocations for a full year if all covenants are equally represented (any serious person would join the Join Maldraxxus Pact so the “Kill Enemies in the Maw” and “Collect Rare Items” quests also give a Maldraxxus Crate as these are based on the current Pact) to get a single egg – not to mention the three eggs , which it takes to get all mounts.

365 days divided by 4 pacts, and so on and so forth.

As someone who has farmed every single Paragon mount in the game, farming these [Nekrorochen-Eier im Speziellen] is a massive descent from the rest in a negative way. When I look at the comments on wowhead, other players see it the same way. If that is indeed the design you want, then so be it! Then I just keep farming lol. However, it seems inappropriate to me that you have to collect such a reward 3x for the fact that it is only a recolor of a mount that was already in patch 7.3 on Argus and you have to farm 10 times as much in total for it.

I don’t want to come off as a mount collector who is salty (that’s me) for not getting the drop, but rather to draw attention to this issue and ask the honest question because I believe it is not intentional, considering the previous Appeal and Paragon rewards.

In the stream he then added:

I don’t think they really thought about it. They just half-heartedly put it in this box and didn’t think about it anymore.

Community has been begging for a long time: Asmongold’s experiences coincide with many players. If you look on the various forums or just on wowhead’s “Necroray Egg” page, the comments there are similarly frustrated.

  • “I believe the existence of these eggs to be a rumour. I’ve opened countless of these boxes since the release of Shadowlands, none of them.”
  • “I got the first egg pretty quickly, after the 2nd box or so. I got number 2 yesterday with 297 attempts. Hopefully I won’t need as many crates for the third egg.”
  • “I hate being that type of guy, but this is really a pain.
I’ve done every single Necrolord calling quest on at least one character since the expansion launched, sometimes even on 5 characters at a time, still getting 0 eggs so far.”

It’s entirely possible that Blizzard simply underestimated the drop chance for these eggs, as they are currently one of the most difficult mounts to earn, requiring an extremely high investment of time and then a lot of luck.

However, there are also a few players who have probably been extremely lucky so far and even got more than 3 eggs. These players know that the 4th egg (and all subsequent ones) only hatches a green slime that can be sold for a few hundred gold pieces.

Maybe the developers just needed a nudge to change the chance of these eggs.

Have you gotten all the Necroray mounts yet? Or did you not even know that there can be mounts there at all?
