If you also want to embody the scholar from Final Fantasy XIV in real life, slip into the best robe you can find and cast your spells exclusively with a pen, with which the spells are written in a book. Twitch streamer Super Louis 64 shows how this works.

Gamers have the craziest ideas when it comes to alternative controllers in video games. Instead of a mouse and keyboard or the gamepad grabbed the dance mat, the Overwatch hero with the Nerf Bow played or training the pet to play video games. Twitch streamers are also familiar with unusual controllers SuperLouis 64 optimally.

He’s already gambled with a ring fit, a pizza and several bananas as a controller. His latest project, while not quite as wacky, still makes for the best immersion in Final Fantasy XIV. Using a controller composed of a book and a pen, he ventured into the dungeons of Final Fantasy 14 and provided for his fellow players by casting his spells via a pen (wand) and drawings in a book volume. With the right cosplay, scholar immersion is perfect.

Twitch streamer heals Final Fantasy dungeons using book and pen as controllers

In a short clip on Twitter, the Twitch streamer shows how the book and pen controller combo works. The controller consists of two main parts: the book, the cosplayer/creator Erin from @icequeenog modeled after the Hard Leather Grimoire, contains input buttons and sensors that correspond to in-game actions. The buttons on the left of the book correspond to different sidebars, while two sensors on the right cast the spells that the player queues.

Essentially, it works like this: Super Louis 64 can use the book controller’s buttons to queue abilities. He then uses the massive pen to draw on the appropriate sensors to cast in-game spells. Overall, Super Louis 64 combines the physical actions of drawing spell signals with the typical pressing of buttons to play the game!
