FIFA 23 fans fear a new change will render many powerful cards either useless or too expensive

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team will see the biggest changes since FUT mode began, but many fans are already worried about losing important cards.

What’s changing in FUT 23? Yesterday, August 11th, 2022, EA announced a big change for the upcoming FIFA 23’s FUT mode. The old chemistry system will be completely thrown overboard and replaced by a new, more flexible system.

In short, it works like this:

  • There are no longer any connections between players standing next to each other on the pitch.
  • The players get chemistry through identical leagues, nationality or club – the position doesn’t matter.
  • There are 3 chemistry levels per card and no more negative effects.

A detailed explanation of the new system can be found here:

Fans see big problems for icon cards

In the Queen_LaFIFA reddit thread (via reddit) the fans discuss extensively about the new chemistry system. The Big Question: What will become of Icon Cards in FUT 23?

Because in FIFA 23 Ultimate they work differently than before. While they still have unique chemistry traits, they don’t bring as many benefits to the team as they did in previous spinoffs, where they provided chemistry to every adjacent player.

In FUT 23, they boost the chemistry of players of the same nationality, counting as two players themselves, so compatriots get 2 chemistry points.

Why some icon cards might be useless: It is argued that Legends with less popular footballing nations, such as Puskas (Hungary), Eto’o (Cameroon), Best (Northern Ireland), Litmanen (Finland), Hagi (Romania) and Giggs (Wales) in FIFA’s FUT mode 23 could no longer play a major role.

Because they themselves continue to play on full chemistry, but no longer bring their teammates a chemistry boost, unless they have the same nationality. And that’s not so easy with the players mentioned above.

So it’s entirely possible that a whole bunch of icon cards will become significantly less attractive because they just can’t create extra chemistry for certain teams.

Why many icon cards could become priceless: In addition, fans assume that icons from popular nations such as Brazil or France could become extremely expensive or even unaffordable. Because these would work particularly well in the new chemistry system, as they can also boost the numerous top cards of these nations.

What do you think of the new chemistry system? Are you looking forward to it? Feel free to tell us in the comments! And you can find our complete overview of the FIFA 23 release here.
