Two Point Campus – test, simulation

Varied: The environments of the universities are diverse and pose their own challenges.

In the spirit of the bullfrog

With Two Point Hospital, the British Two Point Studios 2018 released a successful intellectual new edition of the hospital construction classic Theme Hospital. With humor, stupid illnesses and the goal of the perfect hospital, the developers, including Bullfrog veterans, were able to land a respectable success that charmingly captured the spirit of the 1997 original.

Two Point Campus is now stepping out of the shadow of the archetype. According to a similar structural scheme, no hospitals are to be created now, but venerable educational institutions that are to give their students a good education in subjects such as robotics or foolishness to take with them on their way through life. And, of course, there’s a whole lot of humor involved when clowns teach the economics of entertainment. That means: In spirit you stay connected to Bullfrog’s development games this time – but the spark doesn’t really fly for me. But from the front.

A university rarely comes alone

Varied: The environments of the universities are diverse and pose their own challenges.

In Two Point Campus I have to build a university from scratch in twelve levels. Sometimes I have more or fewer buildings at my disposal, but the beginning of the university is empty. Each of the environments offers its own challenges such as weather or property size and the university orientation ranges from rural small town university to the Ivy League College of the elite – and brings with it corresponding demands that need to be met. Each level can be completed with up to three stars, which together unlock more universities. At any time during the campaign, I can return to universities that have already been completed in order to freshly equip the old walls with new unlocks.

In the corridors, which are initially empty, I set up lecture halls, classrooms, libraries and laboratories from above. But since my students also live on the university campus, dormitories, toilets, showers and rooms where students can spend their free time are quickly added. Uni isn’t just about learning, it’s also about partying and growing up together. As I progress through the campaign, I unlock more rooms, including break rooms for my employees, research labs, continuing education centers, and the student center, which can host larger parties and even concerts. The latter can be planned around the lectures and courses – so that the students are not distracted too much from their actual purpose in life. The LEARNING.

Create, create, build little rooms

The room design tools work well. Only the object placement sometimes bitches a bit.

The interior design is extremely comfortable. I simply drag the intended rooms into the empty areas of my university buildings and place doors, necessary furnishings and embellishments with a few clicks. Practical: I can save entire rooms and halls as a plan and simply copy rooms that have already been placed. In addition, I can redesign the buildings at any time and without any fuss: the laboratories, lecture halls, etc. can be added with a click of the mouse and reinstalled elsewhere. That’s great and reduces the recurring build-up routine a bit – but not strong enough. But more on that later.

In order to ensure that the university year runs smoothly, I first have to hire assistants, caretakers and teachers who keep the shop running and my students busy with content. After all, these young people don’t automatically get an F for their sloppy homework. The staff also ensures that food stands are working, books in the library are being given out, and damaged learning instruments or toilets are working.
