New button on Steam: Free content without starting the game in the library

from Oliver Jaeger
Valve has introduced a new button for its Steam client that now allows users to add free content to the library without first having to launch the game. This made some players uncomfortable, so this change is a relief for them.

The Steam distribution platform not only offers content that is subject to a fee, but also content that you can get for free. This includes games that are inherently free or offered for 0 Euros during a special promotional period. There are also free game expansions and DLCs. Unfortunately, there was a small problem with this content, which was primarily of an annoying nature.

The new blue button is easy on users’ nerves

Now, however, a long-awaited wish has come true for many Steam users, because Valve has introduced a new blue button for its distribution platform that allows users to download free content such as games, add-ons or DLCs by clicking on the Steam add library. Many players found the handling as it was before very annoying, since either the game’s installation process started directly or the game itself with each additional content. This was not a big problem, since you could of course cancel the installation process, as annoying many players felt it anyway.

This could drive users mad, especially in games with a lot of additional content such as Monster Hunter: World, some of which are free of charge, such as hairstyles or pendants. However, this new button is not found on Steam’s website, only on the Steam client, which most players have installed on their PC anyway.
