Destiny 2 will count patches differently starting August 23, 2022
To avoid confusion, Bungie’s Destiny 2 developers pointed out in the last TWAB dated August 11, 2022 that with the start of Season 18 on August 23, 2022, the patches will be counted differently – namely as it was in the history of the Destiny saga also makes sense.
On August 23, 2022, Destiny 2 Update 6.2.0 season 18 will start – and at the same time the Bungie developers are also doing a showcase live streamwhich revolves around the content of season 18 and the Lightfall expansion scheduled for spring 2023 (in case you forgot the date again ^^).
But huh? Why Destiny 2 (buy now €19.50) update 6.2.0? Weren’t we just on 4.something? Actually yes, but the folks at Bungie have decided to rename the updates for the popular lootshooter to match the developers’ internal counting. Below is the explanation for it.
Destiny 2: Patch Number Update
“Starting August 23, 2022, the patch numbers in Destiny 2 will change for all future patches. Update 6.2.0 will be released for Season 18. For comparison, Destiny’s launch was update 1.0.0 and the Taken King 2.0.0 Work on Destiny 2 began even before Rise of Iron was developed. To keep track of all the numbers, the launch of Destiny 2 was known internally as 3.0.0. Since then, every major expansion has become an update number added, internally calling the Witch Queen Update 6.0.0. To reduce confusion regarding public patch numbers and to align our internal and external patch numbers, we are making this change for all future patch numbers from now on.” Means: The Lightfall future of Destiny 2 is then called Update 7.0.0, The Final Shape (the subsequent expansion) is logically counted as 8.0.0. You can read that of course in the TWAB of August 11, 2022.
