Is he still The Flash? Ezra Miller apologizes

Will The Flash be cancelled? Warner Bros. considers workaround (1)

DC Comics character Barry Allen, who appears as the superhero The Flash, is a consistently nice guy in most portrayals. So it’s almost unreal that a scandalous actor like Ezra Miller would portray Central City’s Scarlet Speedster. The Flash is a film by director Andrés Muschietti and is scheduled for release in June next year – at least that was the original plan. As we recently reported, thinks Warner Bros. are now considering the possibility of scrapping the film entirely, should Miller not get a grip. But after everything that has happened, is that even realistic? Apparently yes, because Ezra Miller is finally listening to the big Hollywood studio, apologizing and enlisting professional help.

Ezra Miller is out of control

Ezra Miller’s behavior can no longer simply be explained by the fact that the eccentric actor is bored. The Flash actor is accused of several crimes, among others Assault, theft, harassment and more. In 2020, Miller choked and threw a woman to the ground in a bar in Iceland, after which he was evicted from the establishment. In March 2022, Miller was arrested in Hawaii after a fight at a karaoke bar. Since then, the actor is permanently located in the sights of the authorities. Miller also has trouble with the police on his farm in Vermont – he allegedly lives there with a woman and her three small children. Social workers fear that not only drugs are being consumed in the living areas, but also that weapons and ammunition are lying around openly. According to Miller, his wife and children no longer live with him.

Despite all of these incidents, for a long time there was no talk of Miller losing his role as the Flash. On the other hand, fellow actor Johnny Depp, with whom he Fantastic beasts together, lost his role as Grindelwald following scandals surrounding his marriage to Amber Heard, which resulted in allegations of domestic violence from both sides.

Less than a year before The Flash premiered (buy now €26.99) and after a handsome sum of $200 million was invested in the film, Warner got cold feet and issued an ultimatum. There was three ways: The film is canceled altogether, Ezra Miller seeks help and apologizes, or the film is released in theaters, but Miller does not participate in any marketing appearances. The ultimatum apparently helped.

Finally: Professional help for Ezra Miller

Miller has apparently decided on option number two and is reportedly now looking professional help. He made a statement to Variety and apologized for his behavior:

“Having recently gone through an intense crisis, I now understand that I suffer from complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I would like to apologize to anyone I have alarmed and upset with my behavior. I strive to to do the work necessary to return to a healthy, safe and productive phase of life.”
