Many fans are celebrating Tower of Fantasy’s character creator – but it’s completely unnecessary

In Tower of Fantasy you can mold your own character according to your standards. Lots of customization is possible and players are celebrating that, but do you realize that the Character Creator is completely unnecessary?

Great joy about nothing: On August 11th, Tower of Fantasy received its release here in the West. The huge open world as well as the character creator are acclaimed aspects of the MMORPG that many players couldn’t wait for. But after fans spend some time in the story and finally pull their first SSR, the joy suddenly turns to confusion.

What is an SSR? An SSR is short for a “simulacrum” and represents the personalities and characters that you can collect over your time in ToF. You receive them in the form of artificial intelligences that override your self when activated. You can then activate them and benefit from their talents and appearance.

So if you equip an SSR, you transform into it. The appearance and the talents are then taken over by you. Your unique self, which you then spent hours creating, will disappear until you undo the transformation.

A complicated system that hides your creations

So if you choose to use a simulacrum, your created character becomes redundant. You can still switch back and forth at any time to regain your original form, but what’s the point if your character isn’t nearly as capable as an SSR?

The SSRs are more powerful and versatile. With them, players can dismantle bosses with ease with the right squad combo. Different with your created self, that takes much longer. Apart from that, it’s just a pity that Tower of Fantasy advertised the character creator in such a way that it only plays a secondary role.

Why should fans spend so much time creating their cool anime characters if they can only hide them anyway? Despite this, ToF has an outstanding character creator that can be used to create many well-known anime personalities.
