Microsoft: Less than half as many Xbox One as PS4 consoles sold

Microsoft (Unternehmen) von Microsoft

In the current dispute between Microsoft and Sony over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by the Xbox manufacturer, an interesting detail about the sales figures has come to light.

Because now there is an official and relative indication of how the Xbox One compared to the PlayStation 4 in the global console market. In a published some time ago document to the Brazilian government, among other things, there is also talk of the fact that the Sony product sold “more than twice as many” copies. That reported among others GameLuster.

Xbox One sales figures: Official source, inaccurate information

This statement is also astonishing because Microsoft has not published any figures since 2015 and instead focuses on user behavior and, above all, on their commitment. Sony, on the other hand, only recently announced that it did not want to communicate any further figures for the PS4, which means that the official figure is 117.2 million units sold:

So the Xbox One numbers must be under 58.6 million units sold. To date, there have been estimates of 51 million, which are very close. This puts it in 14th place behind the NES and ahead of the SNES in the list of best-selling consoles. The PS4, on the other hand, is the second most successful home and fourth most successful console overall.

It remains to be seen how the competition between the two big players will continue. Sony recently filed a complaint and fears competitive disadvantages from a possible departure from Call of Duty, whereas Microsoft argued decisively.
