You can only install a certain type of SSD in your PlayStation 5. You actually need one NVMe™ SSD, so not SATA SSD, and it must be built in compact M.2 format. Such SSDs look like memory sticks and are attached directly to the mainboard. This saves you cable clutter in the console.
Specifically, a PCI Express® connector (“PCIe®”) is used for the connection and the SSD must be compatible with the rapid 4th generation, which is called PCIe® Gen4x4. This allows compatible SSDs to transfer data at Sony’s recommended sequential read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or faster. The SSD also needs to be well cooled so that it can always shovel data at high speed.
