The Samsung Odyssey Ark arrives in Spain: this is Samsung’s beastly 55-inch 165 Hz curved gaming monitor

Odyssey Ark

During the last CES in Las Vegas, Samsung presented us with the Odyssey Ark, a huge 55-inch curved monitor loaded with technology. That was at the beginning of the year and it has taken a long time, but the device has finally landed on our borders.

The device already appears on the Samsung website and in El Corte Inglés, which seems to be the only distributor in our borders. The problem is that there seems to be no stock and therefore we do not know the price in euros. However, we know that playing this monster will not come cheap, as its price in the United States is nothing more and nothing less than 3,500 dollars. We will update when we have more information.

A curved monster, mini-LED and full of hertz

The Samsung Odyssey Ark is a monitor that could well be considered a curved television due to its size. The device incorporates a 55-inch mini-LED VA panel with 4K resolution1,056 dimming zones and 1000R curvature which, according to Samsung, offers the best viewing experience at more than 80 centimeters.

Its normal brightness is 600 cd/m2, it has excellent contrast and it is compatible with Quantum HDR 2000, HDR10+ and HDR1’+ Gaming. It reproduces 1,000 million colors, covering 95% of the DCI-P3 space. In terms of playing, it should be noted its refresh rate of 165 Hz and your GtG response time millisecond. It doesn’t have NVIDIA G-Sync, but it does have FreeSync Premium Pro.

The screen has a matte finish and can be pivoted into “cockpit mode”. In other words, it is possible rotate screen 90 degrees to put it vertically (in the purest The Sero style). Beyond curiosity, it can be interesting to play flight simulation titles, such as ‘Flight Simulator 2020’.

In order to take advantage of the size of its screen, the device is accompanied by a solar powered controller (the Ark Dial) that allows you to control the layout of the screen. Featured features include FlexMove, an option that allows you to adjust the display area to any size with a different ratio or put the screen in 21:9 format, something recommended in certain games such as ‘Lost Ark’. In the same way, several windows can be put on the screen with a fairly large size.

Finally, it should be noted that the monitor incorporates Samsung Gaming Hub (with direct access to cloud gaming services, for example) and built-in speakers. The system consists of four corner speakers and two center woofers, resulting in a 60W 2.2.2 channel. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos and has AI Sound Booster to optimize the sound through AI.
