In World of Warcraft Dragonflight, Blizzard is revamping when and how you can change your talents. Everything will be easier – but a few limitations remain.

Talents in World of Warcraft have basically been a big talking point since their inception. In vanilla it was still normal that you can only redistribute talent points with a corresponding class teacher and only for a hefty sum of gold, but in modern “retail” it is completely different. There you can respend talents in each rest zone and even change the specialization at any location.

What changes with Dragonflight? With the next expansion, Dragonflight, not only will the talent system be revised back to a tree, but adjustments will also be made to the rules for when and where you can change talents. This can basically be done anywhere in the open world later, regardless of whether it is a quiet zone or not. Talents can also be adjusted and changed during a raid.

Changing talents, no matter how extensive it is, then requires a certain “casting time” of 5 seconds. This is to prevent players from briefly escaping combat in a PvP situation and immediately adapting their talents.

Changing talents everywhere – soon it will be possible.

Where can you not change the talents? However, some limitations in customizing talents remain. It is still not possible to change talents during a fight.

It is also not possible to change talents within a rated battleground or during an ongoing Mythic+ instance. In these cases, talent selection should continue to be fixed to create fairness.

Does that also have disadvantages? In a way yes, because inscriptions lose a source of income. Previously, Inscriptionists were able to craft various tomes that allowed characters to redistribute talent points outside of quiet zones. This source of income is now gone, as all characters in Dragonflight always have this option.

So inscriptionists are hoping that there are some cool new recipes in Dragonflight that can be used to earn gold. A few of these recipes are a boon for roleplayers, who can fire spells at friendly characters for cool effects.

What do you think of lifting these talent restrictions? A good step towards more freedom or should the barrier have stayed?
