Gambled with cryptocurrency: Pokémon MMO is put on hold
Kickstarter projects are a dime a dozen these days. A few lucky ones manage to get fully funded because their product has caught the interest of users. For example, the MMORPG Untamed Isles, which wanted to offer gameplay à la Pokemon. The project was able to collect a total of around 500,000 euros and already had a real one Steam pageand just this month the studio wanted to take pre-orders to commit to a release on October 6th prepare for this year.
Pokemon MMO loses all its money in crypto crash
Actually, everything looked as if nothing would stand in the way of the release of Untamed Isles, but according to a developer update on August 11th, the project is now dead, so to speak. The reason for this is finances, but not because the developer studio miscalculated and but would have needed a little more money to complete their project. Instead, the studio probably invested the Kickstarter money in cryptocurrencies. However, after the market crashed some time ago, they lost most of their finances and now don’t have enough left over to continue development.
“Since we began the journey in 2020, the economic landscape has changed dramatically, both generally and specifically for cryptocurrencies, and we have no confidence in the current market. We have run out of funds and cannot develop at the moment continue,” writes Joshua Grant on Kickstarter.
Untamed Isles is currently on hiatus until the crypto market “stabilizes,” Grant continues. According to the studio, it is very sure that the problems with cryptocurrencies will calm down again, after which they will resume work on the MMO. We don’t know why the studio is so convinced of this, maybe all the employees are just keeping their fingers crossed.
