The fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is great fun, especially in multiplayer, should be well known by now. If you want to tear down the slopes with your friends – or alternatively complete strangers – you can do so either in local split-screen mode or in online mode.

The fact that there is also a LAN mode is probably not known to everyone. This is simply because this variant is somewhat hidden in the menu and requires a button combination to make it visible.

Wait a minute, what was LAN again? LAN stands for “Local Area Network” and describes a method in which several consoles or PCs can be connected via network cables and a hub. If games support a LAN mode, multiplayer matches are also possible over the network.

The advantages here: All participants have their own screen or display, and the transmission times are on average faster than in online games.

  • Hold down the L and R buttons here and click in the left stick at the same time

Voila, the last menu item should now have changed from “Local Play” to “LAN Party” and you’re good to go. All in all, you can play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe up to 12 consoles join together. And a LAN party with Nintendo’s all-time favorite sounds pretty appealing, at least to us.
