Playstation PC Launcher: Clues Discovered in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

from Oliver Jaeger
Evidence of PSN account linking was reportedly found in the files of the newly released Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered PC port, suggesting that Sony could adopt a launcher like Ubisoft, Rockstar Games and Activision Blizzard for its PC games .

Sony may be thinking of launching its own launcher for its PC ports. This can be deduced from the fact that references to PSN (Playstation Network) accounts were found in the files of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Videogameschronicle is said to have seen these clues and confirmed their authenticity. For example, the files contained multiple references to “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements”.

Sony’s second home on the PC

So far, Sony has sold its games via third-party platforms such as Steam or the Epic Games Store. Playstation’s PC branding is there, but used as a catch-all for all new releases on PC, not a PC launcher. If the files in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered are indeed pointing to a Playstation PC launcher, there could possibly be a cross-buy feature or Playstation Network integration for PC and Playstation titles as well.

The introduction of a PC launcher would only be logical, since Sony is currently in a porting mood and has announced that it will transfer around half of its games to PC and mobile devices by 2025. Well-known titles that have been ported to PC in recent times include Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War and, of course, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. There are no official statements from Sony about a possible Playstation PC launcher, but the manufacturer recently opened one official websitewhich deals specifically with its PC ports.

If Sony provides a Playstation PC launcher, there is little likelihood that games will be distributed exclusively through it. Microsoft, for example, publishes its games both through its own store and through Steam. The next titles coming to PC from PlayStation are Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in the fall and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection sometime this year.
