Embracer on a spending spree: Lord of the Rings, Tripwire Interactive, Limited Run Games and more

The Embracer Group grows and grows and grows. After THQ Nordic, Gearbox, Plaion (formerly Koch Media), Saber Interactive and many more, other companies have been incorporated.

This includes Middle-earth Enterprises, which gives Embracer the IP rights for The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and more.

What’s still on the shopping list

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Embracer gets the rights to JRR Tolkien’s works themselves, these still belong to the Tolkien Estate. Rather, Embracer has secured the company that owns the rights to turn the books into films, video games, and more.

Embracer has brought many of its recent acquisitions together under a new label called Embracer Freemode.

What else has been bought? On the one hand the Killing Floor development studio Tripwire Interactive, on the other hand Limited Run Games, which have specialized in the distribution of physical editions of digital games for collectors, are taken over.

Embracer is also taking over Tuxedo Labs (Teardown) via Saber Interactive and the LA-based studio Singtrix, which specializes in karaoke systems, is now part of the group. And then there is another takeover, which is still secret for the time being.

Purchase prices for all acquisitions were not given for “business reasons”.
