FIFA 23 makes Rudi Völler a hero, but removes the iconic status of 2 legends

Rudi Völler will be part of FIFA 23: The German soccer legend will be playable in Ultimate Team. At the same time, EA announced more heroes – including two players who actually had a higher status.

This is how Völler comes into play: Rudi Völler will be one of the new hero cards in FIFA 23. The former German attacker is assigned to Serie A – Völler played for AS Roma for five years.

Before his station in Rome, Völler played for Kickers Offenbach and 1860 Munich, spent a very successful time with Werder Bremen, then went to Italy and was later on the ball for Olympique Marseille or as the head of Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Völler celebrated his greatest success in 1990 as a player in the German world champion team. In general, he is one of the most successful strikers in the national team, with 47 goals in 90 games.

A career that would actually have fitted well for an Iconic card – that’s the status that football’s greatest legends get in Ultimate Team. Völler will get a hero card in FIFA 23, including a superhero design:

However, there is no rating for Völler yet.

At the same time, FIFA has announced 23 more heroes – and there are two former icons.

Two icons are no longer legends in FIFA 23

Which icons are these? Both Okocha and Nakata are no longer assigned to the icons in FIFA 23, but “only” to the heroes. A leak had already indicated that – now it actually happened.

Both are not necessarily among the top icons in FIFA. However, Okocha was still a popular card as a “beginner icon” because he could score with strong skills. Nakata’s icon card in particular had a reputation for being a bitter pill in many games, for example if you pulled it from an icon pack – precisely because there were so many better cards.

However, the “demotion” could now also be an opportunity – because in the new chemistry system of FIFA 23, heroes are worth a lot.

They give two chemistry points to players in the same league and one to players from the same country. Okocha will be assigned to Ligue 1, Nakata to Serie A – this could make them very popular as a chemical supplier.

EA also announced three more new heroes:

• Capdevila
• Smolarek
• Alo Owairan

Overall, however, the FUT Heroes seem to be more important this year than last year. Ratings are still missing, but it is to be expected that they will not exactly be weak. Whether and how much stronger icons will be compared to heroes remains to be seen.
