Diablo 4 Won’t Be Pay-to-Win, Blizzard Emphasizes – New Seasons and Shop Details
Blizzard has emphasized that in Diablo 4 you cannot spend money to strengthen your character.
In the game’s latest quarterly update, Game Director Joe Shely takes a closer look at the Diablo 4 live service elements.
On to the new season
As you know it from the predecessor, there will be seasons. For each season you have to create a new character.
“When a new season begins, all characters from the previous season are promoted to the Eternal Realm, where you can continue playing, leveling up, and collecting loot.” “To play in the new season, create a new character and experience the new seasonal features and content while leveling up alongside other players.”

“Along with a Paragon Points cap in Diablo 4, we’re making sure that your effort and talent – measured in terms of skill and strategy – will determine how powerful your character becomes. It’s also allowing players who missed the previous season to participate. The season is designed so that character power can only be increased by playing the game, so you can’t buy it in Diablo 4.”
Game Director Joe Piepiora also has new information on the season pass.
“The Season Journey accelerates progression in the Season Pass. Any playstyle will advance you in the Season Pass, but min-maxers can focus on Season Journey objectives to progress faster,” he writes.
The Season Pass offers both free rewards (cosmetic items, premium currency, and boosts) as well as premium-only rewards (cosmetic items and premium currency).
“Accessories are available in the shop in exchange for premium currency. Accessories offer players even more ways to customize their characters’ appearance. There are no items in the shop that give a direct or indirect advantage in the game, so while they look like powerful pieces of gear, they have no values.”
The shop should be optional and transparent, and they promise: “The best-looking accessories are not only available in the shop.”
“Right from launch, Diablo 4 has hundreds of transmogrifications to unlock in-game, including dozens of high-quality armor sets,” says Piepiora. “There are incredible items of unique and legendary quality that players can find without ever entering the shop. The shop just offers more choices, not inherently better options.”
Diablo 4 will be released sometime in 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
