On the trail of Nazis: “Through the Darkest of Times”

After “Through the Darkest of Times”, the Berlin development studio Paintbucket Games has now announced the spiritual successor to its award-winning Nazi resistance game. “The Darkest Files” is also about coming to terms with the darkest chapter in German history.

In the “historical detective game”, players take on the role of the young public prosecutor Esther Katz, who, as part of the team led by the famous Hessian public prosecutor Fritz Bauer, tries to solve crimes committed by former Nazi officials in Germany in the 1950s. In order to bring them to court, however, evidence must first be collected and witnesses questioned. “Fritz Bauer and his team have (…) done immensely important work by bringing numerous criminals to trial and publicly accusing them of their crimes. In doing so, they have had a lasting impact on how Germans view the National Socialist era and helped to promote ‘Never again!’ to become a social consensus. With ‘The Darkest Files’ we want to give our players an insight into this difficult and exciting work”, says Jörg Friedrich from Paintbucket Games. The game is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2023 for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch .
