It’s almost a tradition that every Fractal Design case from the Define series also has a PCGH Edition. Something has changed with the naming. While Fractal Design called the sixth series Define R6, the cases are now called Define 7 and the “R” has been removed. The Fractal Design Define 7 PCGH Edition is already the fourth version that PCGH is launching together with Fractal.

The top features of the PCGH edition at a glance:

– 3 x 140 mm Venturi HF fans (3-pin) instead of dynamic fans (in a special PCGH version with 800 rpm.)
– 5.25 inch bracket pre-installed
– Front door opens to the right by default
– PCGH metal sticker included

Even the standard version of the Define 7 is an excellent case and, with a PCGH rating of 1.82, has secured first place among midi tower cases. A market overview with the best tested cases can be found on the PCGH Advisory Page.

The highlight of the PCGH Edition are the new fans. The standard variant uses the Dynamic X2 GP-14 with 1,200 rpm, while the PCGH Edition uses the higher-quality Venturi HF fans, which are specially designed for quiet operation and have integrated synthetic rubber corners for vibration damping . In the PCGH version, the fans were modified so that they no longer run at 1,200 rpm, but only have 800 rpm. This guarantees that the three built-in fans are quiet even if the mainboard fan control used is not working properly or is not set properly. The PCGH fans have a 3-pin connector. Despite the higher quality fans, the PCGH Edition is at least currently available alternates five euros cheaper than the standard version.

Furthermore, the 5.25-inch bracket is pre-installed on the PCGH Edition. You can see exactly what that means in the picture comparison below in the gallery. Installing this bracket is not entirely uncomplicated, which is why we decided to deliver the PCGH variant in the built-in state as standard. As usual with all previous PCGH Editions, the front door opens to the right by default – but this can also be changed yourself. The PCGH metal sticker now has the new design and is therefore a little more compact. As usual, this is included in the scope of delivery, so that the customer can decide for himself whether and where the sticker is to be attached. At the bottom you will find the user guide for the housing as a download (PDF file).

“The meanwhile seventh revision from Fractal Design’s popular Define case series secures first place in the test with its very good equipment, good temperature values and quiet fans. Compared to the Fractal Design Define R6, the Define 7 has a visually more striking Modivent cover construction and screwless side panels. Otherwise, the Swedish case specialist adopts all the equipment features that already ensured good ratings in the predecessor that we awarded. This includes the insulated door that can be mounted on both sides, the insulating mat in the rear side panel, the Nexus 2 PWM fan hub, the removable 2.5-inch brackets on the back of the mainboard tray and the expansion option for the entire 3rd .5-/2.5-inch cage flexible interior design. The fan slots (see test table) can also be used to install water cooling. At the front there is space for a 360/420 mm radiator. If the holder for the two 3.5/2.5-inch drive bays is removed, a 420 mm heat exchanger can even be attached under the open cover. However, the three 140 mm fans (Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-14) are responsible for the overall good cooling performance (CPU: 64 °C/GPU: 72 °C/interior: 43 °C). The latter do their work with a low background noise of 1.2/1.2 sone. There is also the option of using water cooling. In the rear, on the other hand, there is only room for a 140 mm radiator, but it should be noted here that it is not possible to mount it at all three points at the same time, so certain compromises have to be made here too. Equipping the front, the rear area and a smaller radiator in the lid would be the best way to make the most of the available space.”
