Drunk Journalist Reveals Details of Blizzard's New Survival Game: "Seen Gameplay, Looks Awesome"

In a podcast on August 19, journalist Jez Corden talked drunk about “Odyssey”, the new survival game from WoW developer Blizzard. Corden said he’s seen gameplay and the game looks fantastic in first person. It’s a new brand, it reminds him of games like Fallout 76 or ARK Survival Evolved, but above all of games like Everwild or Fable because of the fairytale atmosphere.

What do you officially know about the game? Very little is known:

A survival game is now the only right decision from Blizzard

After two and a half hours in the podcast, Journalist starts chatting

Where is the new information from? Journalist Jez Corden writes for Windowscentral and spends a lot of time on Blizzard.

On 19.8. he was on The Xbox Two podcast with Rand AL_Thor_19. Apparently Corden had been drinking and after about 2 hours and 30 minutes he responded to a listener question about talking about Blizzard’s new survival game (via youtube).

His co-moderator tried to slow him down and pointed out that they didn’t want to get in trouble with Blizzard. He feared that a cease-and-desist letter would come his way and the podcast could disappear from the internet.

But Corden was moving fast.

The info Corden has apparently relates to gameplay footage he saw. But by the time he saw it, it was a few months old.

Corden says:

  • The new game is codenamed “Odyssey”
  • The game has a fairytale atmosphere. It reminds him of Everwild or Fable.
  • The gameplay he saw was first-person – he compared it to survival games like Fallout 76 or ARK: Survival Evolved
  • The world would have “a lot of magic” – but there would also be machines
  • In the game, players could open their own businesses and build bases

Corden emphasized again and again:

“It’s looking good, it’s looking bloody good – I’m really looking forward to the game. I have no idea when it’s coming out.”

When he was done, he revealed that the Death Knights class was coming to Hearthstone, saying, “This is Blizzard’s roadmap,” while his co-host sighed.

There is no trailer for Blizzard’s survival game yet, but a new mobile game is also on the way:

Rum probably became a journalist’s undoing

How does the journalist react to this? On Twitter, Corden does not comment on what he leaked there and whether there is trouble with Blizzard, as his co-moderator suspected.

He explains his slightly inebriated state by saying that he thought “Rum” only had 20% ABV. The drink of his choice, the rum “Kraken”, has 40% ABV Oops.
