New Tales from the Borderlands officially announced and featured

With Tales from the Borderlands, Telltale Games delivered an adventure hit almost eight years ago that managed to transport the Borderlands universe and its typical humor into a new genre. It is also considered by many players to be one of Telltale’s best games. Unfortunately, the title was not economically successful. The Borderlands makers at Gearbox Software have always stood by the offshoot and have even prominently placed some of the characters in Borderlands 3. So it’s not really surprising that the developers themselves started the continuation of the adventure after the old Telltale had to close.

With New Tales from the Borderlands, Gearbox Software and publisher 2K Games officially announced the new offshoot at Gamescom, which they had already hinted at in April of this year. However, the developers are not talking about a successor. Unfortunately, anyone hoping for a continuation of the adventures of Rhys and Fiona will be disappointed. Instead, the creators tell a whole new story, with new main characters and locations. The developers therefore speak more of a spiritual successor. “New Tales from the Borderlands is a standalone game with all-new characters, but as I mentioned, you’re bound to see a few familiar faces pop up here and there, including Rhys,” said James Lopez, Gearbox’s director of production Software versus PC Games.

The game “is being developed by Gearbox Software, primarily under the direction of Gearbox Quebec – an incredible team with a long history of developing compelling Borderlands narratives. We’ve also partnered with key former members of the original Telltale Games team, to develop the all-new story in New Tales from the Borderlands.Ultimately, we see the game as a spiritual successor that retains much of what fans loved about the first game while exploring how we are evolving in new ways can,” Lopez continued.

For once, the story of New Tales from the Borderlands does not take place on Pandora, but on the city planet Promethea, which already served as one of the settings in Borderlands 3. Here we follow the fortunes of Anu, Octavio and Fran, who the developers call the lovable losers. Anu is a selfless scientist, Octavio is her savvy brother, and Fran is the boisterous frogurt shop owner. During an invasion by the weapons manufacturer Tediore, the three experience the worst day of their lives. A treasure chamber, its key and the associated chamber monster also play a role, of course.

Borderlands and adventure fans don’t have to wait too long for the new adventure. New Tales from the Borderlands will be released on October 21, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nitendo Switch. The price for the standard edition will be around 40 euros. In addition, a deluxe edition is offered for 50 euros, which also includes the first Tales from the Borderlands.
