Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Embracer moves development from Aspyr to Saber Interactive

After the Knights of the Old Republic remake was recently postponed indefinitely (we reported), the Aspyr project is now being taken out of hands. Newly responsible is noisy Blooberg reports Saber Interactive, who have the role-playing game developed at one of their Eastern European studios.

Aspyr overwhelmed?

Announced at a PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, the remake of the legendary Star Wars role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic was initially developed by Aspyr, who recently mainly developed remasters and adaptations of, among others, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Episode 1 racer have released.

In addition, the studio was responsible for the switch implementation of Knights of the Old Republic 2, which was particularly noticeable due to a game-breaking bug. For months, players were unable to complete the game before an update in July could fix the problem.

LucasFilm and Sony weren’t happy with the progress of the remake, which has been in development for two years, when they reviewed the project. The Embracer Group then stopped the development of KOTOR and gave the project into new hands.

A new hope

Bloomberg refers to Embracer’s annual report. This reports that a large AAA project has changed developers to ensure the quality of the title. According to Embracer itself, it does not expect any major delays in further development, but it is completely unclear what exactly that means.

Knights of the Old Republic has not yet had a release date, but according to Bloomberg it can be assumed that development will take at least two more years. A release before 2024 is therefore almost impossible. The new managers, Saber Interactive, have recently developed games such as Snowrunner, Vampyr and World War Z.
