GC22: Sci-fi story-action shooter Scars Above revealed – News

Serbian indie studio Mad Head Games and publisher Prime Matter took part in yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 a trailer with game scenes Scars Above shown. The game was first released on the Summer Game Fest 2021 presented and made the impression of a survival action adventure with a focus on exploring an alien planet. However, the new, almost one and a half minute trailer, which you can watch below, shows a much more action-heavy facet of the sci-fi title.

Combining elements of a sci-fi action-adventure and third-person shooter with puzzle-solving and investigative mechanics, Scars Above rewards exploration of the world with an intense story focus and offers the player a challenging fight for survival.

As a crew member of the SCAR team, you are involuntarily stranded on an alien planet and are initially on your own. By exploring the extraterrestrial game world and the first combat actions with alien opponents you drive the story forward. Ruins of ancient civilizations and alien artefacts invite you to solve various puzzles. According to the developer, the player is rewarded in his immersive progress by overcoming difficult situations, mastering challenging fights and uncovering spectacular mysteries.

Despite different premises and gameplay elements, the title is a little reminiscent in its setting, the game world, the character and the shooter combat system Returnal by Housemarque, albeit without arcade and roguelike elements. Scars Above is due out later this year for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series.
