WoW: Dragonflight: New caller class gets the most important cooldown in the game
The Blizzard developers are doing everything they can to ensure that the new class of the caller in WoW: Dragonflight is not a pipe burst and is immediately one of the strongest and most played classes. In return, they give the healer and damage dealer the most important cooldown in the game in the next alpha build.
Introducing a new class in WoW is always a balancing act. If the new class is too weak, then it faces the fate of the monks, which for a long time was the least played class of all. If, on the other hand, it is too strong, the developers quickly run the risk of creating a second death knight, who was so superior in all three specs in WotLK at the time that he was basically able to do everything better than all previous classes.
With the demon hunter, the developers have walked this tightrope in WoW (buy now ): Get Legion done properly, which should also be the goal for the caller in WoW: Dragonflight. In order to find enough players who use the new DpS or healer style of play, not only was it equipped with interesting game mechanics, but also with very strong cooldowns and support spells. Apparently that’s not enough for the guys at Blizzard and so they now give the caller the most important cooldown in the game.
The Caller gains Heroism/Rage
As Game Director Ion Hazzikostas revealed in an interview with Liquid Guild Leader Maximus, the Caller will have access to an ability like heroism or battle frenzy to get. Similar to the hunter or mage, where the same effect is below time warp or Ancient hysteria running, the ability will probably get a new name but have the same effect.
This means that five classes will be able to cast the most important buff in the game in the future. Of course, this makes it much easier to set up the groups and raids. Because it doesn’t matter whether it’s a raid or a mythical plus dungeon – hardly any group wants to go without heroism/fighting frenzy. Incidentally, the reason given by the developers is that with an additional class, the percentage of classes that can have the effect has shrunk. That would have made the classes in question even more important, which you wanted to prevent.
Do you think it’s okay that the new class of the summoner will be equipped with other important abilities, or would you have heroism / battle frenzy rather given to another class that doesn’t currently have as many important support abilities – such as the warrior or monk?
