WoW WotLK Classic: The best easter eggs in Northrend
As is well known, WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be released on September 27, 2022. And because we will be making the continent of Nordend unsafe again in the course of the nostalgic journey, we dug out a special from our article archive on the best Easter eggs on the ice-cold continent and adapted it visually to our current design. Do you remember all the references or had you already forgotten some of the Easter eggs?
Zort and Narf
“The Pinky and the Brain” fans know these exclamations only too well. In the well-known comic series, Pinky likes to use the words “Narf” and “Zort” to end his sentences. The goblins are near the crystal canyon in the north of the Dragonblight. “Troz” – “Zort” backwards – was also used occasionally in the series. You can find him at the goblin camp. It’s just a pity that Blizzard has renounced “Poit”.

Mayor Quimby
A meeting with this parody of the award-winning animated series “The Simpsons” is reserved for the death knights. During the quest line in the hero class starting area, the mayor and namesake of Springfield Joseph “Diamond Joe” Quimby serves as a quest target in the Scarlet Enclave.

stinky
For the achievement “Pet Epidemic”, which requires you to collect a total of 50 pets, you will receive a small skunk as a reward. The little stinker has a great weakness for cats and pursues them in the intoxication of love. The behavior is strongly reminiscent of the French skunk “Pepe”, which love-madly constantly chases after a pretty lady cat named Penelope. Because of her black and white fur, he mistakenly thinks she is a lovely skunk lady. Penelope, on the other hand, is rather annoyed by all these attempts to flirt and desperately tries to get rid of Pepe.

Dalaran Sea Turtles
The four little turtles are in the Dalaran Sewers, looking up at a Dalaran Sewer Rat. This scene inevitably brings to mind the “Turtles” listening to their leader “Splinter”. The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (or “Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles” as they are better known in Europe) were very popular, especially in the late 80’s and early 90’s and spawned several series and movies.

Bambina, mother of Bambina, drummer, Flora
These four friends roam the Grizzly Hills outside the Westfall Brigade camp to the east. As in the film classic “Bambi”, the two deer, Bambina and his mother, are accompanied by a rabbit (drummer) and a skunk (Flora). In the original version from 1942, Bambi’s loyal companions were named Thumper and Flower and together they experienced countless adventures in the wilderness.

Heigarr the Terrible
Anyone who occasionally glances at the daily newspaper is certainly not unfamiliar with Hägar the Terrible. He is the leader of a group of Vikings who love to conquer England. Heigarr, on the other hand, is probably a parody of the main character in the popular short comics. You’ll see him as a quest opponent on the island off Kaskala in the Borean Tundra, where a pack of vrykuls have gathered.

Captain I. Glu
This allusion is also obvious. Captain Iglo, the “fish stick man” has enjoyed great popularity in advertising for many years. In World of Warcraft (buy now ) he’s a diving-helmet gnome swimming in the water north of Valiance Keep. By the way, in the American client, the NPC is called “Clam Master K”. This is a reference to Jam Master Jay, one of hip hop’s founding fathers and a member of Run-DMC

Peer Woll
At the Westfall Brigade camp in Grizzly Hills, Peer Woll keeps the Alliance soldiers clean. At least more or less – in the dialogue a soldier complains to Peer that his laundry wasn’t washed clean enough. The question “Is this new or washed by Peer Woll?” does not arise here. The allusion to a well-known detergent brand cannot be overlooked here.

Harrison Jones
A clear nod to Indiana Jones, played by Hollywood star Harrison Ford. You could already find him in Zul’Aman in the days of Burning Crusade. There he opened the instance for you and was apparently struck down by the trolls. In the Grizzly Hills you will meet Mr. Jones again and may help him to escape from old troll ruins. The very name of the quest “Dan-ta dan-ta dan-ta-dah!” reminiscent of the film music earworm and makes you smile.

Agent Skully and Deathguard Molder
The Horde receives some quests from Deathguard Molder in Gallrage that lead to New Hearthglen. Agent Skully is also part of the long quest line around this base of the Scarlet Crusade. Skully is disguised as a Crusader behind the Abbey in Herdham. With these NPCs, the developers are alluding to the two main protagonists of the X-Files mystery series, Fox William Mulder and Dana Katherine Scully.

DETHA
The animal protection organization “DETHA”, based in the Borean tundra, attacks anyone who has recently killed an animal of the tundra. This alludes to the real animal rights activists of “PETA”. They don’t hurt people, but take radical action against animal abusers. PETA became known above all through posters with stars (e.g. Dennis Rodman, Pink, Steve-O and many more) expressing their protest against animal abusers and fur wearers.
McGoyver
The little gnome technician can be found at the Valgarde Alliance Fortress, on the left side of the jetty. There he is busy working on his non-functioning flying machine. Without a doubt, this name is a reference to what is probably the most famous series hobbyist of all time: MacGyver. Played by Richard Dean Anderson, the former Special Forces agent would surely have solved Goyver’s problem in seconds with the help of duct tape and a Swiss Army knife.
