Surprise in Pokémon GO: After the GO Fest, a mini-event starts directly

The grand finale of GO Fest 2022 is currently underway in Pokémon GO, but Niantic seems to have a special surprise for you here. Some trainers are now reporting on a mini-event after the event. We at MeinMMO have looked at what it’s all about and which monsters you get.

What’s happening in Pokemon GO right now? Today, August 27, 2022, the big final event for GO Fest 2022 will take place in Pokémon GO. After the popular event was celebrated extensively this year and brought 3 live events in addition to a global event weekend in June, it is now set to come to a glorious end.

But some trainers are now reporting that a mini-event will continue after the finale and suspect a teaser for the upcoming season behind it.

The mini-event brings you these monsters

At 6:00 p.m. sharp local time, the big GO Fest finale comes to an end. Or maybe not? As trainers from earlier time zones are now reporting on reddit, there should be a special mini-event after the end of the final event.

In his post, idriskitforabiscuit writes that immediately after the event, at 6:00 p.m., countless spawns of Lunastein and Sonnfel appeared in New Zealand. But none of the monsters are listed by Niantic on any of their event pages. That’s why idriskitforabiscuit is asking the community if this could be an unannounced mini-event.

What are these Pokemon? Lunastein and Solfel are two Rock and Psychic-type Pokémon from the 3rd generation of games. They are reminiscent of a moon and a sun. Together they can only be found in the game during special events.

Outside of these periods, they spawn in different regions, which they alternate with the summer solstice and winter solstice. They are mostly found there at night. The two Pokémon do not have any advancements or advancements.

What are the other trainers saying about the spawns? idriskitforabiscuit is not alone in suspecting a mini-event, as other trainers have also made similar observations. Countless copies spawned after the final event, and not just for a few minutes. You can read the following reports in the comments (via

  • goodtimes37: “45 minutes and it’s still not over. It’s like being punished and told to take a break.”
  • CeratogyrusRSA: “One hour and 5 minutes after GO Fest and still Lunastein and Sunfels are spawning”
  • cable_girl: “A very high proportion of these spawns came up until about 7:30pm and then it started to die down a bit. It’s 8:30pm here now and we still occasionally have one of each around, but for the most part it’s back to normal spawns now.”

So you can already prepare yourself for a slightly longer fishing experience tonight. With a bit of luck you might even come across a Shiny. But why does Niantic even bring such special spawns after the event? Some trainers are wondering the same thing and have shared their theories on reddit.

That could be the reason for the spawns

Many trainers on reddit are puzzled in the comments as to why Niantic even brings such spawns after such an important and, above all, big event. It quickly becomes clear to many that this must be an announcement for the next season. The reason for this is, among other things, the events of the past few days.

What has happened in the last few days? If you play through the second special research under the name “A radiant reunion” to the end, you will find a special clue in the texts.

The Pokéminers, a group of dataminers, discovered this in the game code a few days ago, fueling speculation about a possible release of four new legendary Pokémon.

Professor Willow tells you about his experiences in Ultra-Space, according to which he was surrounded by a presence “warm as the sun and calm as the moon”. For many trainers it was already clear that it must be Solgaleo and Lunala, two legendary monsters from the 7th generation of games.

With another discovery of 3 new mega developments, in which space images also played an important role, the suspicion of a possible upcoming Ultra Space Season became louder.

What does that have to do with the mini event? Since nothing is known about the new season, some players could imagine that Niantic wants to tease the first content with Lunastein and Sonnfel. Both also visually represent a sun and a moon. You can read the following comments on reddit (via

  • ZekromFPS: “After Willow and Rhi teased Solgaleo and Lunala, I think it’s an unannounced thing as to what’s to come.”
  • Tymcc03: “This definitely feels like a teaser.”
  • iluvugoldenblue: “Ultra sun/moon reference?”
  • poppukonvision: “I think it’s great when they do surprise events. I hope it means something.”
  • Rethramine: They clearly point to Lunala and Solgaleo, no doubt about that. That’s a big clue.”

In addition, it is not the first time that Niantic has announced the next season with such an unannounced event. Even before the start of the Alola season, Pokémon GO spawned Alola Kokowei everywhere to give the first clues about the next season. So it would also be conceivable for this mini-event.

However, it remains to be seen whether the forthcoming season will actually be about the universe and the sun and moon.

How do you like the surprise after the big GO Fest finale? Are you looking forward to Lunastein and Solrock? And do you think that’s a hint for the next season? Feel free to write us your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.

In the coming weeks you can expect a number of events in Pokémon GO. The first dates for the Community Days in September, October and November have now been set. We’ll show you.
