PS5: New model has appeared in Japan and gives hope for faster production
Update 9:50 a.m.: As press start reports, the new model is already available in Australia. Accordingly, the new versions are each 200 grams (digital version: CFI-1202B) and 300 grams (disk version: CFI-1202A) lighter than their predecessors.
Original message: The PS5 will probably get a new model very soon, at least that’s what the first pictures from a Japanese online retailer show. The new model, which first appeared on Twitter, was given the name CFI-1200 and, like the last new model, would not be a Slim or Pro upgrade, but simply a newer version with slightly different components.
New PS5 could get new chip
The new model is said to go on sale in Japan on September 15, 2022 – the same day the PS5 price increase takes effect there. With us, the console has even become more expensive:

New AMD chip: What exactly will be different with the new model is not yet known. However, it is quite likely that a new AMD chip will be installed in it. At least we know that a new AMD 6nm chip, the Ryzen 7 6800U, has been in production for a few months now. With the new model, it could now replace the previous 7nm AMD chip.
But don’t get too excited, the new chip isn’t supposed to bring any major changes to the console’s performance. Rather, the point is that Sony could produce the PS5 more efficiently and thus faster with a new chip.

Already the second PS5 revision
Almost exactly a year ago, Sony launched a new model of the PS5, which has the identification number CFI-1102A. Here, too, only small things have been improved. The current console is about 300 grams lighter than the launch variant and has a different screw for the base.
Of course, a new model is basically positive if it leads to more efficient production, but we still have to wait and see what exactly is in the new model and when it will come to us. In addition, according to our survey, many of you are no longer looking for a PS5 because you either already have one or have given up looking. But what about Sony’s pro controller? In our current survey, we want to know from you whether you want to get the DualSense Edge.
Are you waiting for a Slim or Pro version of the PS5?
