EK Water Blocks introduces Quantum Velocity² AM5 Water Cooling Blocks for Ryzen 7000

EK Water Blocks has introduced the new Quantum Velocity² AM5 water coolers for Ryzen 7000. Compared to their predecessors, these have again been optimized and should be able to optimally cool the new processors with a specially designed cold plate. Therefore, read below how they differ exactly from the AM4 versions and what optimizations there are.

Custom liquid coolers are the most powerful cooling solutions that can be built into home computers and are very popular among PC enthusiasts. Like normal air coolers, they are delivered with mounting kits for AMDs and Intels corresponding CPU sockets and have to be reworked for new sockets. EK Water Blocks has now introduced new AM5-compatible water blocks to match the AM5 socket. The latest generation EK-Quantum Velocity² have been specially adapted for the modular chip design and, like their AM4 predecessors, have EK Matrix 7 compatibility.

This means that the height and pin spacing are in 7mm increments. At 54 x 90 mm, the new water coolers for AM5 have the same hole spacing as AM4, but the AM5 mainboards require a new mounting system due to an integrated backplate. The coolers should be characterized by a high flow rate and high performance. EK claims to have taken care of this with a newly designed cold plate for AM5 and the right contact pressure. Optimum contact should be given above all on the surfaces under which the dies are located.

<p>EK’s proprietary exact mount system has been redesigned for AM5 and is now fully in-block for a clean look.  The installed mounting screws have a hard-stop design, which means that once they are installed to the end of the thread, the block is optimally secured, which can reduce the risk of damage.</p>

EK’s new blocks for AM5 come in five different versions. All offer RGB lighting and nickel. There are combinations with plexiglass, acetal, satin titanium and gold. Only the tops differ, the performance of the blocks should be the same. The blocks are priced between 125.90 euros for the Nickel/Plexi and Nickel/Acetal versions up to 209.90 euros for the nickel/gold version. They are not yet listed in the PCGH price comparison and can only be pre-ordered via the manufacturer’s website.
