Sony has done everything it can to enter the mobile games market. But fans fear that the group will trip itself up.

San Mateo – Sony doesn’t want to just saddle up on a horse in the future. Because the group announced that fans can now also look forward to the company’s mobile games. But they didn’t seem too enthusiastic about it. There is great concern that the development of new games for the PS5 will take a back seat. But in a statement, Sony was able to calm its fans down a bit.

Sony buys Savage Game Studios – Games with well-known brands are planned

This is planned: Sony opens a completely new chapter in its company history, because for the first time the company now also wants to develop mobile games. Games with already established brands of the gaming giant are planned. But completely new IPs should also bring a breath of fresh air to Sony’s portfolio. So it would be conceivable that Kratos and Atreus will also find their way onto domestic smartphones in the future. Sony is even setting up a new department for the project.

The special: However, Sony is not alone in its decision to make popular brands available as mobile games. Because the competition, like Nintendo, dared to take this step much earlier. Nintendo fans can therefore look forward to games like Mario Kart and Pokémon Unite on their cell phones for a long time. What is special, however, is that Sony did not bring in an already established studio to develop the new mobile games, but bought Savage Games Studios, which was only founded in 2020.

The studio may not shine with well-known titles, but it does have some interesting names on the team. Because the founder Michail Katkoff and his colleagues were already working on successful mobile games like Clash of Clans or World of Tanks.

Sony plans mobile games with well-known brands – fans are skeptical

Competition for PS5: It seems a bit as if Sony noticed that the Xbox Game Pass is becoming more and more attractive for gamers and therefore acted. However, not all fans are convinced that mobile games of all things are supposed to help the company out of its misery. Rather, they fear that less time will now be invested in the development of new single-player games for the PS5.

But Sony took the wind out of the sails in a statement. Because in one blog post fans were once again assured that of course we continue to work on great single-player games for the PlayStation.

As we’ve assured you with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community or our passion to continue creating great single-player experiences with a compelling story .

In addition, mobile games can also be used to attract even more people to the PS5. After all, the smartphone games are like little brand appetizers and the main course then awaits the players at the console.

Sony is already working on AAA titles for smartphones

This is what the fans can expect: Sony also announced that it is already working on a mobile game together with Savage Game Studios. However, it is not yet known when the title will appear for the smartphone. There is also no information yet on whether Sony’s first mobile game will be an existing brand or whether Savage Game Studios will be able to let off steam with a completely new IP.

So far, it has only been confirmed that the smartphone game is said to be an AAA title. This gives hope for a lot, so it only remains to be seen whether really popular brands like God of War or The Last of Us will make it to mobile phones in the end.
