Ryzen 7000: DDR5-6000 RAM is the 'sweet spot' according to AMD

from Norman Wittkopf
AMD’s Technical Marketing Manager Robert Hallock has confirmed that DDR5 memory with 6,000 MT/s is best suited for the new Ryzen 7000 processors.

AMD’s new AM5 platform with the recently announced “Zen 4” processors from the Ryzen 7000 series and the corresponding mainboards will be launched on September 27th, and anyone who is still looking for the right RAM should, according to AMD’s Robert Hallock Set to DDR5-6000 RAM.

So far, AMD has said that the new processors officially support DDR5-5200 memory for single-rank and dual-rank with one module per channel configuration. When using two bars per channel, the officially supported speed drops to 3,600 MT/s, according to an overview from the website.

Hallock has now but noisy Wccftech.com confirmed in a Discord chat that DDR5 memory at 6,000 MT/s is the “sweet spot”. AMD’s Technical Marketing Manager understands this to mean the best ratio of costs, stability, performance, availability and simplicity. In addition, look out for RAM kits that include two modules, as four-bar configurations are officially supported, but can compromise signal routing integrity and limit maximum performance.

CPU setting recommendations

Hallock also commented on processor clocks: While X670 motherboards have been reported to support a maximum FCLK of up to 3,000MHz, the default configuration is 1,733MHz. According to Hallock, users should also not change the FCLK and leave it on “AUTO”.

According to the original sound, the 1:1:1 ratio for FCLK, UCLK and MCLK is no longer as important for the Ryzen 7000 series as it used to be. In order to optimize their systems, users should therefore overclock the memory modules and controllers in 1:1 mode. Well-functioning Ryzen samples could reach 2,000 MHz FCLK, but such configurations are not prioritized by AMD. In the natively supported mode (DDR5-5200), the AMD Ryzen 7000 series works with a ratio of 2:1:1 and frequencies of 1,730:2,600:2,600 MHz. For the best possible performance, RAM kits that support AMD’s new “Extended Profiles for Overclocking” (EXPO) are also recommended.
