WoW: Dragonflight: preview of the new user interface options

The new HUD from WoW: Dragonflight should especially appeal to minimalists who will save themselves the installation of additional addons in the future.

A great feature of WoW: Dragonflight is the revision of the user interface. As in previous expansions, the developers take functions from popular addons and integrate them into the game so that you don’t have to download additional programs. However, the WoW devs expressly emphasize that they will not ban any addons that may become obsolete due to the following new interface options in “editing mode”.

With the free customization of interface elements such as the action bars, bags, the world map, the party frames, buff and debuff displays and many other functions, addons such as ElvUI, Bagnon and Bartender, for example, become superfluous. In a blog post, the developers present the possibilities of the HUD revision in Dragonflight.

A tidier HUD and even more view range

The obvious changes will immediately catch the eye of players. For example, the mini-map and health bar are more prominent, and some elements have been removed to give more visible space. The developers kept the familiar design, but cleaned up the appearance of the action bar a bit.

They also added a new set of gryphons and created wyverns for all Horde fans (can optionally be removed). The display for loot and inventory also has a new look and players can the combined backpack function use to find and sort items in inventory faster.

Edit mode as in ElvUI

Edit mode now gives you the power to redesign, adjust and move (almost) anything anywhere to your heart’s content. Various elements of the HUD are moveable and each individual component offers a variety of options so that everything is exactly where you need it.

You can customize your aim and focus target, party frames, companion display, stance display, buffs, debuffs, cast bar, special ability button, and even the NPC conversation display window.

Once you’ve customized everything to your liking, you can name, save, edit, copy and share your version with the community. And for those who switch specs often, the feature also remembers which spec you’re using. When you change the specialization, the feature knows what HUD layout you created for that specialization and changes it accordingly.

When you click on your action bar, a new window opens in edit mode. Here you can set whether individual action bars should be displayed vertically or horizontally, how big the skill icons should be, how many rows you want and when the action bars should be visible.

Optionally, you can hide your action bars and only show them when you are in combat. Use the Quick Key Mapping button to assign skills directly to hotkeys. If all this is a bit too complicated for you, you can also reach the old interface menu for action bars via the button Action bar settings.
