Destiny 2: Lightfall: Curruli, Tormentor, WTF? These are the good guys and the bad guys
Destiny 2: Lightfall is the beginning of the end. Is our known solar system threatened again with an apocalypse like the one that brought us the arrival of darkness when the Golden Age came to an abrupt end? Will we be able to stop the impending doom this time? In the saga of light and darkness that began in 2014 with Destiny 1, Lightfall opens the penultimate chapterbefore this massive story arc comes to a close in 2024 with The Final Shape expansion.
The Shadow Legion
But for what the Guardians expected in the run-up to the Lightfall announcement for the Light of the Traveler to be brought to its knees… the new planet Neptune, with its capital Neomuna, is surprisingly bright and colourful! This planet is humanity’s last line of defense from the sinister (and mysterious) plans of the witness revealed at the conclusion of the Witch Queen campaign to be the real mastermind behind the fate of the Hive.
During the Season of the Haunted campaign, we learned that the power-hungry former Cabal Emperor Calus, who is already descended from a race of clones, has merged his mind with a Pyramid of Witness. And that in turn forms the basis for the opposing combat power that awaits us Guardians on Neptune. The Shadow Legion is a Cabal clan modified by Calus and the Witness who descend on Neomuna like a swarm of locusts. Why all this? It can be assumed that the witness wants to tear the entire universe out of balance between light and darkness and thus plunge it into absolute chaos. Will he succeed?

Rhulk and the witness
The shadow legion cabal, modified by darkness, are accompanied by so-called tormentors, monstrous and at the same time ominous figures that we have not seen before… whereby… let’s look at the raid of the student boss Rhulk’s oath, then have we already have an extremely creepy character that is second to none. Rhulk is the First Apprentice of the Witness that we can actually see, having only heard from Mara Sov about them. Rhulk came from the planet Lubrae and wiped out all life on his home planet out of hatred, resentment and blind anger – it might never have come to this if the witness hadn’t found Rhulk and supported him again and again.

In general, the following can be formulated: “It seems that Rhulk was the Witness’s answer to the Traveler’s interference in civilizations. The Traveler adapted the species to his ideology, and in order to fight him, the Witness began to do the same with powerful individuals do. He sent out Rhulk to create an army for the Witness – a race of Dark Wardens, as you might call them.” (via game spot) After Witch Queen’s main campaign, we know that the Witness was instrumental in the development of the Hive – and Rhulk was the bearer of his sinister messages. After eons of years, Savathûn sought to break free from the darkness and the threat of Rhulk’s sheer power by bringing the Traveler to her throne world. Unfortunately, it has to be said in hindsight, we thwarted Savathûn’s plan. That’s why we Guardians had to go into the pyramid ourselves to confront Rhulk. We know: Disciples of the Witness are not immortal. But we don’t know how many are left… or do we?
The tormentors
The Lightfall trailer features a monstrous figure (no, we don’t mean Calus) who appears to command Shadow Legion units. Bungie calls this figure Tormentor, meaning tormentor. It can be assumed that at least this Oschi here will be a similarly powerful figure as Rhulk.

Lightfall’s tormentors function similarly to the Light-infused Hive Keepers of the Witch Queen campaign, several of which were featured in the Reveal livestream. These are particularly nasty characters who want to stop you. Will there be a master tormentor, a real additional disciple of the witness? Who knows!
The curruli
At our side will fight figures called Cloudstrider, they are also called Curruli. Until now, no one had guessed that the Neptune metropolis of Neomuna exists, where an alternate version of humans battles the threats of darkness. The Curruli aren’t all that dissimilar to the Wardens because of that.

However, Bungie developers point out that Guardians were chosen to protect humanity – it is their job. Curruli, on the other hand, chose this job themselves, which of course represents a completely different motivation. Wardens will learn from the Curruli – but maybe we can teach them something, too.
