Arcane Becomes First Video Game Series Adaptation to Win an Emmy!
The Netflix hit series Arcane based on League of Legends was able to secure an Emmy in the category “Outstanding Animated Program” at this year’s US television awards ceremony. We’ll tell you who the well-known competitors were.
In July, we reported that the hit Netflix series Arcane two nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards could enter in September 2022. In the “Outstanding Animated Program” category, the video game adaptation based on the Runeterra universe (League of Legends) has to assert itself against well-known competitors, including Rick and Morty, Bob’s Burgers, What if…? and the simpsons. The Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation section features Barry, Cobra Kai, and Ted Lasso, among others.
Arcane wins an Emmy!
Sure enough, Arcane won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The Netflix production can thus call itself the first and so far only streaming and video game adaptation series to have won the US television award to date. Co-creator Christian Linke was opposite deadline suitably happy:
“Thank you for that. It’s a big thing for us as we come from the video game space. It’s amazing to see the world embracing our characters and our stories, so thanks to Netflix for believing in us from the start, thanks to Riot Games for working on the entire IP… and to all the people , who have accompanied our game and League of Legends for the past twelve years and helped make it the big place it is now.“
It has been clear since November 2011 that that there should be a second season of Arcane. When? Probably 2023. Also, more series are planned for the Runeterra universe in collaboration with Fortiche (the animation studio behind Arcane).
