iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are here: old processor and new camera

offer

Apple is releasing a larger iPhone 14 Plus this year alongside the iPhone 14. Both models rely on the “old” A15 Bionic processor. Some features are also reserved for US customers for the time being.

Apple unveiled its new iPhone 14 on Wednesday evening. As expected, the model is visually and technically very similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 13. It has the same 6.1-inch screen, including the notch for the front camera and Face ID, and the same design. What is new this year, however, is the larger iPhone 14 Plus model, which is technically largely identical to the iPhone 14, but has a 6.7-inch display.

Old processor with new camera setup

Both models are powered by the same A15 Bionic processor that is already at work in the iPhone 13. What is new, however, is the main camera with a 12-megapixel sensor and a particularly bright f/1.5 aperture. Apple states that this should improve performance at night by up to 49 percent. In addition, there is a second sensor with an ultra wide-angle lens. According to the manufacturer, the front camera has an autofocus for the first time.

Accident detection and satellite distress call

Like the new Apple Watch models, the new iPhones should also have accident detection that automatically alerts a person’s emergency contacts. In addition, with the optional satellite emergency call there is even a completely new emergency call function with which the iPhone can send a signal even if there is no conventional radio cell nearby. However, the service will cost extra and will initially only be available in North America.

There is another innovation especially for the US market. There Apple for the first time dispensed with the slot for SIM cards and relied entirely on eSIM. In Germany, however, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will have a SIM slot.

The iPhone 14 should start at 999 euros (RRP) and be available from September 16th, while the iPhone 14 Plus will cost a whopping 1,149 euros (RRP) and go on sale on October 7th.
