Tomb Raider and Deus Ex are no longer officially part of Square Enix

We already have a few months ago reported about itthat the Embracer Group planning a big takeover. It was about a variety of brands and the associated studios, which at the time were still part of Square Enix were.

Particularly prominent are the IPs of Tomb Raider and deus exwho last at Crystal Dynamics respectively Eidos Montreal were used. Both studios have released updates stating that the brands are now fully in their hands.

Square Enix: No use for Tomb Raider

Crystal Dynamics thus takes full control of the “Tomb Raider” franchise, the next part is already in development and relies on the Unreal Engine 5. The studio announced the changeover:

“We are pleased to announce that Crystal Dynamics has assumed control of several game franchises – including Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain – from the games’ previous owner, Square Enix Limited. […] As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or one of its affiliates) is now the owner of these games and is responsible for the gameplay and associated personal data. The procedure of Square Enix is still difficult to understand. Many of the brands that have been sold have many fans and the games developed by the studios can certainly be considered a success. Nevertheless, the Japanese company apparently no use more for the IPs.

New hope for Deus Ex

While “Tomb Raider” got new games in recent years, fans of “Deus Ex” have been waiting for news since 2016.
