World of Heroes: Niantic Announces New “Pokémon Go”-Style Marvel AR Game
At Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel and Niantic announced a new Pokémon Go-style augmented reality superhero game. Marvel World of Heroes is set to “merge the legendary Marvel universe with the real world” next year.
Anyone who reads Niantic will certainly immediately think of augmented reality games such as Pokémon GO, Ingress or Pikmin Bloom. However, the people in charge of the US company would like to release another mobile game based on their own Lightship platform in the coming year, and similar to PoGo, this game should also belong to a popular franchise: Marvel.
Marvel World of Heroes is coming in 2023
Marvel World of Heroes was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo. The creative minds from Marvel and Niantic should work in partnership on the implementation so that the targeted release can be bagged in the coming year. But what exactly can we expect for a game?
Marvel World of Heroes aims to be the first Marvel game in which you can become a Marvel superhero yourself, thanks to augmented reality technology that brings the gameplay to the real world. The game is intended to place a large focus on social interaction. You must team up with your friends and iconic Marvel characters to face cunning super villains.
You not only create your individual identity as a superhero, but also your own background story. You must patrol your neighborhood to thwart crimes, complete missions, and fend off threats from other dimensions. As you level up, you unlock new equipment and skills. On the Official Marvel World of Heroes website you will find more details and a possibility to leave your e-mail address so that you will be automatically informed about upcoming updates.
