Assassin’s Creed Mirage brings back the best parkour system in the series

Assassin’s Creed Mirage returns to its roots with a focus on stealth, parkour, and assassination. But that doesn’t mean that Ubisoft only oriented itself to the first games. In Mirage we’ll also find some DNA from the later games, for example from Assassin’s Creed Unity, which should especially please parkour fans.

Unity serves as a model for parkour

AC Unity’s parkour system is still considered the best in the series. No assassin has moved through an AC world as smoothly, dexterously, and flawlessly as Arno Dorian. In comparison, Eivor recently felt very sluggish and awkward. All the more gratifying is in an interview with arab hardware lead producer Fabian Salomon’s statement that this agility should return in Mirage:

Indeed, that is our absolute goal. We’re seriously trying to reach that level with Mirage, and as we said, since Baghdad is dense, we want players to enjoy their time in the city through Parkour.

The video by Banana Grandmaster, for example, impressively shows us what the parkour system in AC Unity looks like and what we can expect from it:

RPG elements, assassin contracts and more details

But that wasn’t all that Salomon betrayed. He also talked about the story, activities and RPG elements:

  • Story: Basim will witness the rising rebellion between the Turkish Caliphate forces and the people of Baghdad. The duality of his personality should also be taken up. Sounds like one Connection with AC Valhalla.
  • New confirmed character: Besides Roshan, we will also be dealing with a person named Ali Bin Muhammad. Salomon did not say what role he is playing, but apparently it is Abu Jaafar Muhammad bin Ali, son of Imam Ali al-Hadi, who belongs to a Shia sect. So it could be that a sectarian conflict like the one that existed in Baghdad is being discussed.
  • World: Solomon confirmed that we cannot explore Alamut Fort itself. But we will be able to visit assassin camps around it as well as other areas outside of Baghdad.
  • Activities: Among other things, you can train in the assassin camps. In addition, the assassin contracts, as we know them from AC 2 and Brotherhood, should return.
  • RPG Elements: Mirage doesn’t rely on the level of RPG elements we know from the last parts, but they haven’t been completely removed either. Rather, they have been toned down and used in a way that suits Mirage. For example, there is a progression system related to Basim’s rise from thief to master assassin.
  • combat system: Basim’s movements have been completely redesigned to give the feeling of playing an Assassin and not a Viking. He’s faster and more flexible, so combat shouldn’t feel as sluggish and brutal as AC Valhalla.

What Salomon only mentioned cryptically to arabhardware, but has already been confirmed elsewhere: AC Mirage does without gameplay in the present. Also, it’s the last AC game on the old generation of consoles.

What do you think of the new information? Does this make you like Mirage even more, or is it not your game?
