New York — A trainer in Pokémon GO may have taken the theme song “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” very literally. Because the player from New York has made it his mission to catch every single one of the rare Shiny specimens in Pokémon GO. After a full six years, he’s now managed to bag all of the first generation Pokémon in their dazzling form, but the Kanto region Pokédex shouldn’t be the end of his shiny hunt just yet.

Pokémon GO: All Kanto Shinys caught – Trainer completes long-term mission
This is the Shiny mission: The user “TheHeroOfTatem” shared his success on Reddit. In six years he managed to catch all 151 first generation Pokémon as Shiny “Finally! After six years my gen 1 shiny dex has been completed”. For his long-term mission, he visited three countries and six different states, always in search of the dazzling Pokémon. And his ambition was rewarded, as the trainer now owns all of the Kanto region’s Pokémon in their popular Shiny form.
This is why the hunt is so difficult: The full Shiny-Dex is anything but a matter of course. Pokémon GO doesn’t make it easy for its players to get the coveted Shinys. Because not all Pokémon were found in their Shiny form right at the release of the game in 2016. In fact, it wasn’t until 2021 that the last Pokémon in the Kanto region got its special paint job. And as if that wasn’t enough, not all Pokémon are always available in the game at the same time. These are the rarest Shinys in Pokémon GO in 2022.
Rather, smaller groups of monsters rotate and the region in which you are also has an impact on the appearance of the Pokémon. So it wasn’t an easy task to complete the Kanto Pokédex after all Shinys were added to the game either. Yet TheHeroOfTatem still managed to do it and has delighted the Pokémon GO community. Because in the course of the psycho spectacle, the trainer was able to catch the last open Pokémon on his list: Shiny Flegmon.

Pokémon GO: Trainer catches all Kanto Shinys – Johto should follow
Johto as next mission: The mission of TheHeroOfTatem lasted a full six years, but the trainer doesn’t want to rest now. Because, as he himself noted in his post, he’s only missing four shiny copies of the Pokémon from the second generation of the game. So, with a little luck, TheHeroOfTatem will soon even have all of the Johto region’s Pokémon in their dazzling form. But even then, Pokémon GO still offers over 730 other Pokémon just waiting to be caught. Although not all Pokémon have found their way into the game as Shiny, it is worth keeping your eyes open.
