Sins of a Solar Empire 2: Sequel to the popular 4X RTS announced

from Sarah Petzold
The Ironclad Games development team has announced a sequel to the popular 4X RTS Sins of a Solar Empire. The title should first appear in Early Access and come up with various innovations that the developers have already indicated in the extensions of the first part.

Sins of a Solar Empire is still considered a real board by fans of the 4X strategy – it’s just stupid that the niche title, which is virtually unique in this form, is already 15 years old. Fortunately, the developers will soon remedy this, and not in the form of a new expansion, the last of which was four years ago, but in a genuine sequel.

Sins 2 should offer features that the developers could not implement in the first part

Sins of a Solar Empire 2 has officially been in development for a year and the team at Ironclad Games has now revealed the sequel to the general public. In the second part, the focus of the strategy title should go in a similar direction as has already been indicated with the expansions: away from pure space battles towards more diplomacy with different AI factions. Studio co-head Blair Fraser told PCGamer:

“Sins 2 really brings together everything we can do in terms of tactical and high-level empire management that other people wanted but we never got the chance to do.” Nevertheless, the tactical battles should continue to be the focus in Sins 2. The developers promise many micro-management options, but also, for example, revised defense towers that can move and fire in real time. The game environment should also play an important role in your own strategy: planets, moons and stars move around each other realistically, so that planets that are particularly close to the player’s base on their trajectory are suitable for invasions.

In terms of the setting, the developers remain true to the first Sins and continue to tell the story of the conflict between TEC, Advent and Vasari in Sins 2. However, the story takes a back seat to Sins 2’s sandbox character. We will find out what the whole thing looks like in detail at the latest when Sins of a Solar Empire 2 appears in Early Access. There is currently no specific date for this, nor is there a release date for the finished game.
