FBI investigating hacker responsible for GTA VI leak

The hacker who claimed responsibility for this weekend’s massive Grand Theft Auto 6 material leak is now under investigation by the FBI.

The same attacker also said he was behind last week’s high-profile hack of ride-hailing app Uber, which provided an update on his own investigations.

“There were also reports over the weekend that this same actor raped video game maker Rockstar Games.”, wrote Uber in a blog recently updated. “We are in close coordination with the FBI and the US Department of Justice on this matter and will continue to support their efforts.”

Uber said it believed the person responsible was “affiliated with a group of hackers called Lapsus$, which has been increasingly active over the past year” and that it has similarly breached a list of other tech companies this year, including Microsoft, Samsung and Nvidia.

Yesterday, Rockstar issued its own statement on the attack and admitted that it had suffered a “network intrusion” which had led to the leaked information being taken from their servers.

The GTA manufacturer said it was “extremely disappointed”but there would not be a “long-term effect” in the development. Live services such as Grand Theft Auto Online were not interrupted
