iPhone 15: USB-C instead of Lightning & Ultra model with 8K video?

As soon as the iPhone 14 is here, there is already speculation about the iPhone 15. The next Apple flagship is expected to bring some exciting new features that Android users have known for years – including 8K video, a larger battery and USB-C. A new name for the flagship model is also under discussion.

The iPhone 14 officially arrived in Apple stores on Friday. However, the two standard models bring fewer innovations than many Apple fans had hoped for. That should change with the next generation. Not only should the new “Dynamic Island” feature of the iPhone 14 Pro models be extended to all iPhone 15 versions. LeaksApplePro also brought up the omission of the Lightning connector in favor of USB-C and a larger battery. The manufacturer is said to be aiming for a battery life that is three to four hours longer.

iPhone 15 Ultra with 8K video

It is also interesting that the leaker assumes a new name for the Pro Max variant. The best-equipped model in the coming year will be called the iPhone 15 Ultra and will have a long-awaited feature as a unique selling point. Allegedly, only the iPhone 15 Ultra will be able to record 8K videos. The iPhone 15 Pro is said to share the A17 processor with the Ultra version, but will not offer 8K video recording.

This would allow Apple to further break down its usual division into small and large standard models and small and large Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro would then be the middle ground between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Ultra.

Apple will also charge for the new features. The iPhone 15 Ultra is rumored to have a $100 price increase.

How significant are the rumours?

At this point, of course, it is difficult to judge the veracity of these early speculations. However, what is not so improbable is that the Lightning connector will be omitted. Finally, USB-C will be mandatory for all new devices in the EU from 2024. Extending the “Dynamic Island” feature to all models is also quite conceivable. Apple has done something like this in the past with the notch, which was originally reserved for the iPhone X.
