Sounds like the EA boss would love to see Call of Duty exclusively on Xbox

EA is reportedly for sale – makers of FIFA 22 and Apex Legends are probably looking for huge buyers

Call of Duty has traditionally been closely linked to the PlayStation as a platform. But now Xbox maker Microsoft wants to buy CoD publisher Activision. Fans fear for their favorite franchise, but one man doesn’t seem to mind if Call of Duty becomes an Xbox exclusive: EA’s boss.

Ever since Microsoft announced plans to buy Activision Blizzard, the gaming world has been in turmoil. Above all, fans of Call of Duty as well as PlayStation makers Sony fear whether the popular shooter will continue to appear on the Japanese console:

The publisher’s purchase isn’t complete yet, but EA boss Andrew Wilson seems unaffected by the uncertainty surrounding Call of Duty.

This is what the EA boss says: In a recent conversation during a Goldman Sachs event, Wilson spoke about the limbo that Call of Duty is in at the moment (via SeekingAlpha). He said verbatim:

In a world where there are many questions about the future of Call of Duty and which platforms it will or will not appear on, Battlefield’s platform-agnostic and fully cross-platform system is a tremendous opportunity.

While Wilson doesn’t say he wants an Xbox exclusive for Call of Duty, he doesn’t seem to be too upset about it either. The reason is its own product: the Battlefield series.

Season 2 is currently running in Battlefield 2042, which can inspire players again. Here the trailer:

Call of Duty Xbox Exclusive – An “opportunity” for Battlefield

Call of Duty and Battlefield are traditional opponents when it comes to being the most popular shooter. As two of the biggest, if not the two biggest shooter franchises, they fight for players and their free time with every release.

The latest Battlefield, Battlefield 2042, has rather disappointed many fans. The developers made an effort to save the game, but Wilson himself says in conversation:

I don’t think we have the last 2 iterations [von Battlefield] delivered as we should have. We still have a lot of work ahead of us.

Whether a Call of Duty Xbox exclusive would really help strengthen Battlefield on console is anyone’s guess. However, Wilson seems confident that his team can return to the franchise and do what fans have loved for years.

Even BF 2042 wasn’t abandoned, even if it only really got players going months after its release:

Battlefield 2042 can finally inspire players again with Season 2: “Much better than at launch, it’s worth playing now”
