Cyberpunk 2077: Anime and Update 1.6 give a new boost

Almost two years after its release, Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying renewed popularity. The recently released anime adaptation from Netflix and the new update 1.6 are likely to blame for this.

“Every day this week, Night City has been visited by one million new and returning players. We want to take this opportunity to thank you for being with us and playing the game.” called it on the game’s official Twitter account. In the past few days, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached its highest number since January 2021, the first month after the title’s release, with 86,130 concurrent players on Steam.

Cyberpunk 2077: Update, Netflix anime and sale ensure a second spring

The sudden surge in player numbers is hardly surprising given that the release of Patch 1.6 coincides with a special offer on Steam where you can currently get Cyberpunk 2077 for half its original price. With the update, various new functions and features as well as some improvements found their way into the game.

And Netflix’s anime adaptation should also continue to drive up the number of players: Cyberpunk Edgerunners only appeared on the streaming service’s offer last week and has been loved by critics and viewers alike ever since praised. In the course of this, Quest Director Pawel Sasko thanked him this week “for this second chance”.

“Satisfactory” level reached

After the launch of the highly anticipated action role-playing game was a disaster after its release was delayed three times and riddled with technical problems, the increase in player numbers of Cyberpunk 2077 resembles a second spring. As early as June last year and as a result of a six-month patch offensive, developer CD Projekt stated that the game’s performance had now reached a “satisfactory” level.

CD Projekt used the following 15 months to constantly provide Cyberpunk 2077 players with patches and updates. It was even released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles in February. Just a few weeks ago, the game’s first expansion, called Phantom Liberty, was announced. It is slated for release next year for PC, PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and Stadia. After patch 1.6 there will be no more updates for Cyberpunk 2077’s Xbox One and PS4 versions.
