Twitch: Viewer donates $1 to streamer, but that’s not enough for her: “Don’t be so poor”

Twitch: Viewer donates $1 to streamer, but that's not enough for her: "Don't be so poor"

Twitch streamer Karen Liao was apparently unhappy with the amount a viewer donated to her. She threatened to ban him if he didn’t dig deeper into his pocket.

Who is the person you are talking about? Karen Liao is an influencer who is active on various social media. She runs one TikTok account with 435,500 followers. She is still quite new on Twitch: almost 4,000 people follow her there. To increase the number of her subscribers, she chooses unusual methods.

A real game changer for many streamers was Prime Gaming. You can see what it’s all about in the video.

Prime Gaming, the secret behind Twitch’s success

How does Liao want to achieve her sub-goal? It is not unusual for streamers on Twitch to ask for subs, i.e. subscriptions to their channels. But Liao downright blackmails her viewers. On one stream, she received a $1 donation from a viewer, then confronted him.

“Did you just send me a dollar? What should I buy from it?” asked the streamer. After all, she only gets 60 cents of it. Karen thought: the viewer shouldn’t be so poor.

Liao urged the viewer to subscribe to her channel — and threatened to ban him if he didn’t comply: “Ok, if you don’t subb right away, you’ll get 3, 2, 1 ban.”

The clip quickly went viral on Twitter and reddit. While some users are stunned by the streamer’s behavior, others believe Liao’s viewers want exactly this type of content. They’re already scenting a new meta that could take Twitch by storm (via reddit).

Streamer complains that clip was taken out of context

What did Liao have to say? The streamer has since commented on the situation and said the viewer was banned for a completely different reason. She complained that the recordings had been taken out of context.

This is why the viewer is said to have been banned: Liao stated that the viewer behaved toxically in her chat and offended other viewers. At the same time, he boasted that he wanted to donate a lot of money. So she asked him to follow his words with facts – or to leave.

Liao is not the first streamer to ask viewers to pay in clear terms. Canadian streamer InvaderVie also got into trouble when she asked viewers to buy her a subscription. At the same time, she did not accept unemployment and poverty, because everyone had the money at their disposal.
