Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris (Switch) Review

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris was originally released around 2020 for the last generation of consoles. Now it comes directly to the Nintendo Switch. Let’s see what it brings us

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris presents its version for Nintendo Switch. This is a franchise that has a huge number of fans and as you may know, it is one of the most popular anime series. The original game, developed by Bandai Namco and Aquria. This is a game with very good designs, very good graphics. It is a game that has a fairly deep game core.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris focuses on the underworld arc of the anime series, we continue with the swordsman Kirito as he wakes up in an unknown world with no way to leave. Kirito must find out where he is and how he got there, in search of answers he meets a young man named Eugeo, the journey they are about to embark on will change their lives forever.

Fortunately, Kirito has done this before, although one would think that after a person gets caught up in multiple VR death games, they would learn to leave those headsets alone, but no, and once again he is plunged into a world on the brink. of the devastation.

In Alicization, Lycoris Kirito wakes up in the world of Underworld with no way to remember how he got here and I think the story works better. The overarching theme of this series is life, what life means, and how far someone will go to protect life.

It’s definitely a pretty interesting premise and sometimes it works wonderfully, unfortunately it doesn’t always. This game is quite long and packed with visual novel style cutscenes, if you just focus on the story and don’t rush too much, this is a game that gives you around 55 hours to get to the end of the game. The problem here is that there are so many dialogue scenes that are dubbed only in Japanese, that means a lot of reading. A lot of these scenes are just dialogue between characters, they don’t advance the plot in any meaningful way and it becomes harder and harder to care about those things.

A good example of poor pacing is the opening hours of games; Chapter one lasts approximately fifteen hours. But more than half of this time is spent on dialogue.

But I can say there are definitely some incredibly exciting moments so I can’t say I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it, it’s a shame the game’s opening pace is so slow because it really has potential. However, things look a little better when you get to chapter two as the game world opens up for you, there are side quests, monster hunting and exploration. It is very strange to me that this game has character creation and multiplayer and yet you are locked out for the first fifteen hours of the game.

When Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris works, the game looks simply awesome. The character models look fantastic and the various underworld locations are packed with depth and detail. I particularly enjoyed the variety of environments, from snow-capped mountains to grassy knolls to sprawling deserts. Unfortunately executing all these details needed some extra work, serious framerate issue affected combat and exploration, long load times and frequent spawning of textures and NPCs makes playing the game a pain. fight sometimes.

I can say that the combat system is where the game really shines, there are several systems in play that have been expanded upon in various games and this entry feels like the culmination of everything the developers have learned.

It’s a bit complex and takes some getting used to, there are systems that are briefly introduced and never mentioned again, but once you get the hang of it, when it all comes together, the combat feels fantastic.

The combat is action-oriented with RPG-like mechanics, you can perform basic attacks with your weapon and sword skills that you can chain into combos. Sword skills are your damage-dealing attacks, so learning to keep them flowing as much as possible is your path to victory.

conclusion

So Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris has its problems, fortunately most of these have solutions. I can say that it has a lot more dialogue than I’d like, but this is a pretty polished game, and it runs quite well on the Nintendo Switch. The combat has a lot of depth and is rewarding; the world has been faithfully recreated, filled with stunning sights and towns full of NPCs, and the main story has enough intrigue and excitement to take you down the stretch.
