The launch date for PlayStation Stars is set!

Just as surprisingly as Sony announced PlayStation Stars, it has now been released. At least in Asia – there, loyal PlayStation fans can already start hunting for points to collect nice, digital collector’s items as well as other rewards (for example PSN credit).

With us, PlayStation Stars starts in October

Starting October 5th, American PlayStation lovers can register for the program, followed by us in Europe eight days later. PlayStation Plus will launch in Germany on October 13th.

How do I participate in PlayStation Stars? PlayStation Stars is accessed through the PlayStation App for Android– and iOS-Smartphones. You can also use the program on the PC via the PlayStation home page reach. At a later date, the bonus service will also be integrated into the consoles.

This is how you unlock rewards

You receive rewards for completing certain “campaigns” and activities. in the official blog post For example, Sony lists launching a game each month as a task. Other campaigns are aimed at trophy hunters, who are not only motivated to unlock a specific trophy, but also to be the first person in a region or country to bag the platinum trophy of a newly released title.

But Sony also has unusual tasks ready: In one of the first campaigns “Hit Play/1994” you have to start certain games based on acoustic cues to get a rare collector’s item.

Those are the collectibles

The digital collectibles are stylishly modeled, virtual figures of iconic characters and popular devices, such as consoles and their accessories, from Sony’s history.

The first collector’s items that you can unlock from October include, for example, Toro and Kuro – two cats that serve as Sony mascots, especially in Asia – and the PocketStation memory card extension, which appeared for the PS1 and had a small display . You will also receive a virtual representation of a telescope for joining.

There will be new digital collectibles to unlock on a regular basis, some of which will be extremely rare. If you have received a rarity, you can display it in your profile like any other collector’s item. Incidentally, the figures are not unique, and they cannot be traded.

You can unlock many more rewards via a points system

For most completed tasks you get points that you can redeem in a reward catalogue. In the catalog you will find, among other things:

  • Games from the PSN store
  • PSN Balance
  • More digital collectibles

PlayStation Plus subscribers are rewarded for purchases: PlayStation Plus is not required to use PlayStation Stars, however if you are a subscriber to the service you will receive additional points to spend with each PlayStation Store purchase. The purchase of gift codes is excluded.

Status level explained

Sony also mentions in its blog post a status level that you increase for game purchases and by earning rare, very rare, and ultra-rare trophies. So Sony doesn’t focus on the “value” of a trophy, but on its rarity, so that you don’t boost your status to the maximum in no time with cheap platinum games like My Name is Mayo. As you level up, you gain access to more rewards and benefits.

We also suggested that there should be more focus on the rarity of trophies based on the flood of light platinum games:

How long you keep your status: Once you gain a new tier, you keep it until the end of the calendar year and for another 13 months beyond. The key date is therefore always January 31, but always with a gap of more than one year.

More PlayStation 5 news:

How important the status level is in practice and how long it takes you to level it up is not known. In general, we are curious to see how extensive the tasks are and how long it takes to unlock a reward. But we’ll know more in just under two weeks.

Will you be spending your Stars Points on the collectibles, PSN wallet or games?
