Pokémon GO is getting a new evolution, but trainers don’t want to use it

On Wednesday, October 5th, a new event will start in Pokémon GO that will finally bring you a new evolution. But the coaches don’t want to use them at all. We at MeinMMO explain the reason for this to you.

Which event is it about? The Stars of Development event begins on October 5th. You will also have the chance to secure a Cosmovum for the first time.

But although the monster has been a topic in the Pokémon GO reddit community for weeks and the finds gave the trainers hope, they don’t really want to secure the new monster anymore. We looked at why players are now concerned.

That’s why some trainers don’t want Cosmovum

That is the reason? After many players have been waiting longingly for a release of Cosmovum and the time has finally come, some now prefer not to have the monster. Reason is the Pokemon GO Event Announcementwhich appeared on the game’s blog on September 28th.

In this it was announced that there will be Cosmovum in Pokémon GO for the first time, but you have to develop it with the help of 25 candies from Cosmog. With a look into the game, however, it quickly becomes clear that you have only been able to catch a single Cosmog so far.

But many players prefer not to give that up. While Cosmog itself isn’t particularly strong, some associate it with emotional value or want to secure it for a possible Living Dex. For this reason, development is out of the question for many. Reddit user xmadison84 writes the following in his post:

I really don’t want to develop my Cosmog next week. I just saw that next week we can evolve Cosmog into Cosmovum. Cosmog is one of my favorite Pokemon because of its design. Development would mean that it would no longer be available as Cosmog… maybe forever. Is there anyone who gives up their progress and skips this task? Me, yes…

And the user ZekromFPS is also disappointed that he probably has to develop his only cosmog in order to progress in the task (via reddit.com): “I have a living Dex, so this is going to hurt because I don’t want to give up special research. I’ll develop it if I have to, but I hope they at least give us another one sooner or later.”

Pokémon GO: That’s how strong Cosmog and its advancements are coming to the Season of Light

Why don’t the coaches just wait? The trainers received their first and only Cosmog from the current special research “A cosmic companion”, which will be continued in October. Some are now concerned that developing Cosmog might be part of the research.

If so, they can’t solve them any further without giving up their precious Cosmog. Although special research is generally valid indefinitely and can therefore also be solved in the future, it is thematically aligned with the current content, which is why it is sometimes more difficult to work on the tasks at a later point in time.

In addition, in the past two seasons, Niantic also provided another free research if the special research was completed before the end of the season. It is not yet known whether this will also be the case in the Season of Light.

What is a Living Dex?
A Living Dex, or Living Dex, is a way some Trainers collect their Pokémon. Instead of just registering the monsters in their Pokédex, they want to collect each of them, including each individual development stage, in their vault.
Last year, trainer ZhessZhess showed us his insane milestone to the full Living Happiness Dex.

Is there hope for more Cosmog?

What does Niantic say about this? In principle, more Cosmog should come into play. If you read Niantic’s event post a little more closely, it quickly becomes clear that there are plans for this. writes like this Pokemon GO: “You don’t have to hesitate to evolve your only Cosmog either, as there are rumors that you may encounter more Cosmog in the distant future.”

But when this “distant future” will be is not clear from the article. It is conceivable that Cosmog will also come into play outside of research during the Season of Light, for example in raids. But these are only speculations.

Do these prospects reassure the players?

This vague prediction from the developers that more copies will be found in the distant future is not enough for many players. They would like to know beforehand when and how they will get new Cosmog before they develop their only one.

In addition, some were less lucky when catching the first specimen and were only able to get hold of a relatively weak one. Because of this, they would rather wait for a stronger Cosmog to develop.

These are their concerns: But especially with regard to other monsters that players have been waiting for for a long time, they are now concerned that it could take ages for Cosmog to be replenished. You can on reddit read their very own ideas about the term “in the distant future”:

  • onestworldproblem: “That’s such a weird wording that part of me thought ‘distant future’ might mean there’s going to be some silly time travel event this season where we can catch a bunch of them. But maybe I’m an idiot and ‘distant future’ just means 5 years.”
  • hobbiehawk: “Distant future. Like the time it takes to get the Platinum Giovanni Badge.”
  • Google_Goofy:cosplay: “Especially the ‘distant’ future doesn’t bode well. Sounds more like ‘we have no intention of releasing more, but we’re not ruling it out’.”
  • Lightning1999: “Distant future for Niantic… 2 years or 12 years?”
  • jesusunderline: “Don’t worry, we’ll get another one in 2027 in the GO Tour Alola.”
  • arizonajake: “Dear Niantic, nice try, but I still won’t develop mine any further. Maybe I’ll develop it further sometime in the ‘distant future’.”

Are there trainers who want to develop Cosmog? Yes, especially players who have already caught a strong Cosmog want to take the chance to evolve into Cosmovum. This is what jaydaygrad08 writes on reddit: “Mine is 14/14/14. Time to grow up.”

Paraplueschi is also convinced that in Pokémon GO nothing will go away forever and everything will eventually come back (via reddit.com). However, it remains to be seen when the time will come and whether Niantic will provide some clarity to the trainers in the coming days.

What is your opinion on the development of Cosmog? Would you rather save the little legendary Pokémon until there are more specimens in the game? Or will you evolve it into Cosmovum next week? Let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments and talk to other trainers about this topic.

It is not the first time that Niantic has been heavily criticized in the community. The contents of the in-game shop in particular cause a lot of head shaking. YouTuber Spieletrend therefore takes a hard look at Pokémon GO.
