Take-Two Interactive: Forgoes adventure from Just Cause 3 director

Activision Blizzard: Phil Spencer pleased with acquisition progress

Take-Two Interactive has canceled the contract to publish a new adventure from the director of Just Cause 3 with People Can Fly.

Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive will not publish the Just Cause 3 director’s adventure developed by People Can Fly. A corresponding agreement was terminated by Take-Two.

As People Can Fly previously reported, “Take-Two Interactive has received a letter of intent to terminate the development and publishing agreement by mutual consent between the parties.”

Announced under the project name Dagger and described as a “highly ambitious, groundbreaking action-adventure title,” was announced over two years ago with Roland Lesterlin as director and developed in the studio’s New York location.

However, development will continue under its own steam, also because Take-Two will not exercise its option to acquire the intellectual property rights.

Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly, said of the termination of the contract: “I assume we will part ways on good terms and I see no reason why we should not work with Take-Two on another project in the future could.”

“We strongly believe in the potential of Project Dagger and are now committed to continuing development as part of our self-publishing pipeline. The game is still in pre-production – our team is now focused on closing combat and game loops and migrating from UE4 to UE5.”

“I am aware that this decision means additional investments for us, but self-publishing is part of our strategy. Of course, we do not rule out a collaboration with a new publisher if this results in a convincing business opportunity.”
